    3. Karen I assume that you have discounted the idea that Mary and Charlotte were one and the same person. Have been recently corresponding with someone on the Isle of Wight list and we discovered that in some censuses the wife of the person we were discussing was called Charlotte and in others Maria. Eventually found she was christened Charlotte Maria. I'm not saying these two incidents are related (despite name similarities) but fashions in names change over time, and maybe Mary preferred to be called Charlotte, perhaps it was her middle name and avoided confusion at Heale House. Just a thought. 3. Hi List, Forgot to mention that whilst searching Woodford and Durnford films, I have extracted about 20 pages of parish records. Mainly names that are connected to the North name but still have recorded names like Dear, Allsop, Blowden/Blowdon, Carter, Dyke,Harris, Hayter, Self, Sopp, Stride and Waters. Anyone interested in these names would be happy to send you a copy. Cheers Karenn

    3. I am wondering if anyone has knowledge of a HUNT family in Bridgwater, Somerset. My maternal GG Grandmother was Caroline Hunt, b. about 1838, in Census returns her birthplace was always Bridgewater, but I do not have her in 1841. She is in the 1851 for Calne, Wiltshire, with her Husband, Charles Flay, b. 1828 Calne. There aged 24. Extensive searching of the GRO indexes has failed to reveal a marriage or birth for her. Also an expensive search by Somerset RO failed to find a birth or their marriage. The word MOTIVATION, also pricks my conscience in another way. I have many facts on family lines but am not doing very well in writing it up in a form that could be displayed to family who are interested and keep asking how I am getting on. Apart from 'getting started' seeming to be the biggest hurdle, I dither over what sort of structure to adopt. Any suggestions or formula gratefully received. 3. Hi I, too have a mystery for you. My aunt Gladys turned out not to be my aunt as neither of my grandparents were hers although she`d been part of the family since 1905(at least) until she married. I have her birth certificate to show she was born at Upton Court farm, Upton Bishop Hereford to Thomas and Caroline POWELL in 1893. It gets more mysterious as I discovered my grandmother, Agnes ALLAWAY(nee Powell) had had a daughter(also called Agnes) at Ross workhouse before her marriage. The 1901 census shows Agnes (junior) withthe ALLAWAYs at Joys Green, Lydbrook Glos. The family then moved to Monmouthshire and I searched electoral rolls and school registers and found not Agnes but Gladys living with them I have been unable to find any records of Agnes junior apart from her birth certificat although I`ve looked long and hard I`d welcome any suggestions to solve this mystery SylviaFrom: "Karenn Layne" <klayne@webone.com.au> Reply-To: WESSEX-PLUS-L@rootsweb.com To: WESSEX-PLUS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: RE: [WSX] list motivation Date: Mon, 28 Nov 2005 18:13:52 +1100 Hello All, I have a mystery for you. 1. family disease
    2. Clive Henly
    3. Here is my family story - this is definitely true as the disease in question was passed down to a distant cousin of mine who, fortunately for her, was cured of it. The disease in question, called "disseminated lupus", is passed only through the female line, and affects only women. I believe my gr-gr-grandmother Eleanor Doman (or Dolman) suffered from it. She was born in Derry Hill (near Calne) in 1852, daughter of George Doman and Elizabeth Holley (b. 1912, Calne). I do not have a confirmed female line back from here, but I believe it to be Sarah Godwin (b. 1783, Bremhill), Susannah Hunt (b. 1753, Bremhill) and Sarah Bodman (b.c. 1720). Has anyone else heard of this disease (or similar) being passed through their family? Best wishes Clive Henly Chippenham

    1. Benjamin HAWES b. 13 Feb 1805 in Brockhampton - Marriage Lookup Request
    2. Martin Saiz
    3. Hi, One of my ancestors, Benjamin HAWES, was married at least twice, once to Mary Ann COAK (or perhaps DEADMAN) and once to Mary SIMMONDS. I'm unsure who married him first. I have a long list of children found with Benjamin in various census but because both spouses were called Mary it's hard to allocate the correct names to the correct Mother. Mary Ann COAK was also married to a man named DEADMAN at one time. She had a daughter, Agnes COAK, b. abt 1841 in Henley. If at all possible I'd like to ask for a Marriage lookup for Benjamin to the two Mary's, some details have been noted below to help;- Benjamin HAWES b. 13 Feb 1805 at Brockhampton (Father was Robert & Mother Mary). He died 8 Dec 1874. Mary Ann COAK b. 1801 (place unknown) died 20 Jun 1852. Mary SIMMONDS b. abt 1801 (place unknown) died bef. 2 Apr 1871 (i.e. not on the 1871 Census) The various HAWES childrens names are;- Edwin b. abt. 1825 Laetitia b. abt 1836 Benjamin b. date unknown Robert b. date unknown Emily b. date unknown Mary b. abt 1838 Anne Clara b. abt 1841 Julia Harriet Hawes b. abt 1845 Gilbert b. 13 Feb 1858 Kind regards Martin in Essex.

    3. While wandering about on the web last August looking for Rawlings (my great grandmother's maiden name), I chanced upon someone looking for Rawlings descended from Jeremiah Rawlings who was possibly christened at Netheravon, Wiltshire in 1755. I had managed by purchasing birth registrations and marriage registrations, the 1841 census of Wiltshire to trace back to Jeremiah. I whipped off an email to the email address and received an answer within a few days from Australia where part of the family had emigrated. He directed me to another family member in Scotland and soon we were sharing pictures and details about the family. I have a picture of the house that they lived in in the early 1800s and the best part is a picture of my great great grandfather William Rawlings (born in 1825 at Enford, Wiltshire).
