    1. Query re site covering Sydney (AUS)
    2. Happy new year to all. Can someone point me towards any companion site to these which will cover Sydney please? I'm trying to track down details of a 1941 marriage between Charles Oliver Hunt and Matilda Gill, particularly whether this was a first or second marriage for him, and whether any descendents are still around over there. A bit recent for this sort of list perhaps, but here's hoping! Regards, Colin Hunt

    2. Sonia
    3. whilst searching the Wessex plus archives I came across a message from Mandy O'Neill in 2001 which indicates a connection with the Hannam and Parson families in Kington Magna and Fifehead Magdalen area of Dorset. Although I sent an email to her it has bounced back. Are you still subscribed Mandy? Has anyone else got the Hannams or Parsons connection. Mine is through William Hannam born 1794 in F. Magdalen who married Edith Parsons born 1796 K. Magna. Sonia

    3. Why not look at this one also; www.pubhistorysociety.co.uk Like many people, I've got at least 2 ancestors who ran pubs (Somerset), so I have some interest. There's also www.beerinnprint.co.uk and www.1881pubs.com both of which I found on the first website, which might be of some interest. 3. Take a look at this website if you have publicans in your ancestry. Bristol's Lost Pubs includes all the landlords and has pubs from a wide area surrounding Bristol including Bath: http://www.bristolslostpubs.com/ Colleen ----- Original Message ----- From: <Kvilhaugveien@aol.com> To: <WESSEX-PLUS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, December 31, 2005 10:50 PM Subject: [WSX] Book - "Bath's Lost Pubs" > Final posting for 2005 (!). > > I bought a copy of this book today, and was fascinated not only by the > number of pubs which used to be here in Bath, but also by the number of names the > book contained. 1. Re: Bath's Lost Pubs
    2. I can echo Colin's recommendation. I bought my copy from Waterstones in Bath and today we walked around the centre trying to find as many bits of the old pubs as we could - fascinating and as Colin says, lots of names available together with anecdotes. 1. Book - "Bath's Lost Pubs"
    2. Final posting for 2005 (!). I bought a copy of this book today, and was fascinated not only by the number of pubs which used to be here in Bath, but also by the number of names the book contained. There was even a photo of a pewter tankard which belonged (apparantly) to my 5G-grandfather, Thomas Hunt, who kept The Ostrich in Grove Street. An unlikely source of possible interest to many I think! Copies available from the Oldfield Park Bookshop in Moorland Road, and presumably elsewhere. Happy 2006! Colin Hunt

    1. CROSS family - Quantocks area
    2. Greetings to all. Latest line of inquiry: George Cross, bap. 1817 at Brympton Ralph, son of John and Ann (nee Thorn) who seem to have lived around the Bishop's Lydeard area. Other children were Mary, John, William and a Eliza. If these names ring and bells, I'd be glad to hear from you. Happy hunting in '06! Colin.

    1. 1841 census for Somerset
    2. Hi all, I've had a bit of a disaster with this computer today, and have lost some saved e-mails, amongst which was the 1841 entry for a John and Ann Cross living in the Bishop's Lydeard/Fitzhead/Brympton Ralph area of the Quantocks: both born in the 1780s. Can anyone help me out please?! Thanks, Colin Hunt

    3. Many many thanks for your reply Katannya, Does any of this give detailed entries such as wives, families and dates ? we have a Hugh descended from a Richard (the Richard that entered his family into the Visitations) and here it becomes a absolute mish mash of Hugh's and Richards, sadly because the early records are illegible we cannot get much there. I look forward to anything you can give me because I am having to collect all ESCOTT's to sort the families out. 1. NORKETT/NORCOTT/NORCUTT family origins HENLEY (ON THAMES)
    2. Susan Bell
    3. I am trying to trace a JOHN EDWARD NORKETT spelling could be one of the above variations. There was a story in the family that my ancestors got the name off the side of a bakery van. The more I research the more I believe that anything is possible. That is why I am now looking for the above Great grandfather and his sons, one of which is my grandfather. He was ALFRED JAMES NORCOT(T) and his younger brother was ARTHUR HENRY NORCOT(T). The mother of these was MARY ANN NORCOT (baptism record used only one 'T') her parents were GEORGE NORCOTT (2 T's) who married ELIZA HOLLAND (a widow nee CREIG(?)) I have plenty of information about Arthur and his mother Mary Ann but cannot find any records for :- 1) ARTHUR JAMES NORCOT(T) ....birth or baptism records. I have an approx. birth date which is 18/3/1887. This however does not tie up with his marriage cert.:- On the 1/3/1911 he ALFRED JAMES NORKETT (note spelling) was recorded as 30 years old, bachelor, occupation: patient attendent, resident at : Brookwood Asylum, Knaphill, Woking, Surrey, his father was recorded as JOHN EDWARD NORKETT (same spelling) occupation : painter. Alfreds wife was CLARA CUMMINGS (my grandmother) born SPENNYMOOR, Co DURHAM she was also 30 y/o birth date approx. 17/5/1886 (neither of their birthdates appear to be correct.) 2) I cannot find a marriage record for JOHN EDWARD NORKETT and MARY ANN NORCOTT. Mary Ann is the right person for my great grandmother. The sons Alfred and Arthur left home as soon as they could after their mother Mary Ann married a man by the name of EDWARD HEATH whom they didn't like. Marriage took place 17 August 1884. That shows that both boys were born before the marriage. So where is the elusive John that appears as father on marriage cert. of Alfred and Clara? 3) When Mary Ann witnessed her older sister CHARLOTTEs marriage, she signed her name as MARY ANN NORKETT in the register. Can anyone help me untangle this combination of surnames in this mixture of spellings in the same family? susan.norkett@tesco.net based in Bournemouth Dorset
