    1. [WSX] Gosport Hants Genge family (+ Worralls-Warks)
    2. Janette Kennedy
    3. Hello All, Thanks to everyone who has sent information about Genge families in Dorset, none of which are in the branch of the family I am researching unfortunately. They may come into it once I get further back though. Can anyone help with the Genge branch in Gosport Hampshire into which George Genge was born in 1813? I have this information from the 1851 census for Shaftesbury Dorset. This is as far as I have reached in my searches, difficulty with transport (country life!), and distances to travel to the nearest town with library or archive materials preclude research more than once a week. I once read in a book that all the Genge branches in England (& therefore presumably elsewhere in the world) originated in Dorset in the 17C. In some parts of the country they are spelt Gange. My mother's side of the family was from Warwickshire and was Worrall (Percy) and Tabor (Florence) and I know hardly anything of them at all. Percy was killed on the railway in about 1946/7, and Grandmother was born in Leamington Spa. They lived in Woodford Halse, nr Rugby. Is there anyone out there who can start me off with some information? Jan Kennedy jank@sceftesbr-loumaidlea.freeserve.co.uk

    1. [WSX] Names search at web site
    2. The Ball Family
    3. Hello everybody We've spent the last 10 months taking photographs of parish churches, in north Wiltshire, including memorials and some gravestones. These photographs can be viewed at our website: http://www.oodwooc.f9.co.uk - home page http://www.oodwooc.f9.co.uk/Church_photos.htm - churches index Over the winter we have been recording the names on these memorials, gravestones, histories, vicars lists etc, and have put them into a 'names search' facility - there are 3912 entries. Although there are bound to be a few teething problems, we think it is now usable, so today it was uploaded to the site: http://www.oodwooc.f9.co.uk/church_names/allnames.htm - name search We also have a list of researchers and their names interest, listed by parish, to which you can have your details added (fill in a form and e:mail to is): http://www.oodwooc.f9.co.uk/list_interest.htm - Researchers list http://www.oodwooc.f9.co.uk/form_interest.htm - add your details (If you have visited the site before, you may need to 'refresh' your screen to see the new pages rather than what your computer has stored on it from last time.) 1. [WSX] BAKER, SMITH, HOARE surnames
    2. L Baker
    3. Hello: Apologies to anyone who has seen a similar message on the Hamphire list... I'm new to this list and hoping someone will be able to give me some advice about how to go about breaking down this brick wall. I'm trying to locate my great grandparents in 1891. Charles and Elizabeth (SMITH) BAKER were in Chute, WILTS in 1881 with their first two children, but have disappeared from Chute by 1891. Elizabeth (SMITH)BAKER was born (~1858) in Vernham, HANTS. She may have moved away from Chute after Charles BAKER (b. ~1859 in Chute, WILTS) died. His death was sometime prior to 1892 when Elizabeth remarried to George Edward HOARE. She could have been anywhere in the Wessex area. Any assistance locating Elizabeth BAKER (possibly without Charles) along with Sarah Ann (about 12 years old in 1891), Charles Henry (~10 yrs.), William (~9 yrs.), Thomas (~ 8 yrs.) and Bessie (?) on the 1891 censu would be much appreciated. Louise (in Canada) Researching: BAKER (Chute, WILTS/ Ringwood, HANTS/ Newbury, BERKS), SMITH (Vernham, HANTS), WINTER (HANTS / BERKS) _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.

    1. Re: [WSX] Parish Locator
    2. Paul Benyon
    3. Hi Aaron I know the feeling :-) It did this to me too! What I did was to copy the .zip file to its own directory. Assuming you have Winzip installed select the file in the new directory with Explorer and right click on the file with your mouse - this should give you the option amongst others to "open with Winzip" which you should select: then once Winzip is running chose Extract and select the same directory and Extract the files. Once you have done this run Setup.exe which should be one of the files extracted and the rest should be plain sailing - as they say. A great improvement I must admit on the previous excellent little program. Come back to me if you are still having problems! 1. [WSX] More Wessex strays 1851 & 1871
    2. Another list of Wessex-plus strays in Jersey (not New Jersey) in 1851 and 1871. I have noted where there are others of the same surname at the same reference and have assumed that they are the same family. I have also noted where those in one list also appear in the other index - they usually gave their birthplace as 'England' in the other index. This list does not include all the strays - I will have missed some and others will have given their birthplace consistently as England. I do not know anything further about anyone on this list. 3. Hi Again Further to last night's message I understand all the lists that were having problems should now be on-line again - if you still aren't receiving then you may have been unsubscribed and should re-subscribe. I understand that the Rootsweb Archives at: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ have been or will be updated shortly and should carry anything you may think you have missed? I also understand that the ISP "Pipex" received a massive spam raid a couple of days ago and some list members may have problems talking to anyone with a Pipex address - I note that much list mail has been bouncing for those with Pipex addresses. 1. [WSX] Charles George Crouch b. 1863, and living 1891 in Amersham -- Auctioneer?? d. ?early..
    2. Marilyn Kan
    3. Charles George was b. 1863 in Amersham BKM, was living with mother & sisters in Amersham BKM in 1891 census. Identified as an "auctioneer" in 1881 Census, living with an Uncle in Yapton SSX. He died "as a young man" , possibly in Europe, survived by his mother and sisters living either at Bury Farm, Amersham, or in Littlehampton West SSX, probably before 1900. Any assistance from MI's, 1891 census, auctioneers activities, or newspaper obits would be greatly appreciated. AUCTIONEER - is there any hope that this "profession" kept records in 1890s?? 2. Aaron Wilton
    3. Dear Paul Portland, I have an interest in the Parish Locator that you mentioned in message of 1/15/01, however I can't seem to get the program to run. The program is on my hard drive. A message comes up to unzip, which I do, and then nothing happens. What am I doing wrong? Aaron Wilton
