    2. Rae Edwards
    3. Hello all, I am new to this list and I am enjoying being a listener but these names do have a lot of intrigue.... Searched the LDS site and the IGI and found a number of Bulbecks..Frogbrooks and Charles Talbots mainly from Sussex.. back to the 1500's. Many Elizabeths but could not find Charles and Elizabeth together. Are the names available for any of their descendants for tracking backwards.... Not my family but would love to help.. Rae from USA

    1. [WSX] WHO WAS FANNY RICKS?
    2. Adrian Parry
    3. I wonder if anyone can help discover the identity of the Fanny RICKS who was a witness at the wedding of Henry WESTON to Dinah DREW in St Mary's parish church, Calne, Wiltshire on 30 September 1848. Dinah's father, Cornelius married Mary RIX at Broad Hinton on 15 March 1831, so I is probable that Fanny was related to Mary in some way. Have you come across this family and/or do you know who Fanny was? If so, I would very much like to hear from you. 3. Hi Patrisia The only Frogbrook in the west country census for 1881 is as follows: >Dwelling: Under Hill > Census Place: Alderbury, Wiltshire, England > Source: FHL Film 1341498 PRO Ref RG11 Piece 2066 Folio 51 Page 16 > Marr Age Sex Birthplace >Henry J. FROGBROOK U 24 M Winchester, Hampshire, England > Rel: Head > Occ: Schoolmaster >Harriett S. BATTEN W 54 F Farley, Wiltshire, England > Occ: Mistress Of Needlework >Frances BATTEN U 22 F Farley, Wiltshire, England I haven't looked at other parts of the UK or alternative spellings, so certainly an unusual name in the W Country. There were none in the 1851 census for Devon. Looks like Hampshire may be a starting point? 1. [WSX] Marriage Licence Assistance please
    2. Janice Grayshon
    3. Hi List, I have just resubscribed to the list after some months. In this time I have not had any further success with obtaining a copy of a marriage licence for my ancestors John Wadman and Elizabeth Guyer who married in North Cheriton Somerset on 16 Feb 1790 by licence. He was from Horsington, she from North Cheriton. I was hoping that the licence/allegation may have given some details about John Wadman (perhaps mentioning his father) to narrow my choices as there are a couple of likely baptisms of John Wadman in Horsington. Could any lister advise me what higher church jurisdiction this parish would come under, and if so where I could obtain a copy of the licence? Are these licences on film? I have checked under the Vicar General Marriage Licence Index of the Archbishop of Canterbury without any success, so believe the Licence must have been issued by some authority in Somerset. Any help is most appreciated. Kind regards, Janice Grayshon

    2. Thomas Gooden
    3. Hello I posted my GOODEN and LARCOMBE interests a few weeks ago but I believe I now have a breakthrough going back another generation with the name BREWER. To recap: My ancestor George Gooden was born 1837 in Somerset and lived in Compton Dundon. Emigrated to Australia in 1854. His parents were James GOODEN and Anne LARCOMBE. I suspect James GOODEN's parents were James GOODEN and Elizabeth BREWER. I would be interested to know please if anyone had any information on BREWER, GOODEN or LARCOMBE. Thanks Tom GOODEN Australia

    1. Re: [WSX] A bit of Latin?
    2. Tina Kirby
    3. Well here goes what I can find.. generi is an abstraction of genero meaning beget, produce, create so I assume this meant was born of... praedictae looks like an abstraction of either praedicare meaning preach or praedico meaning warn, admonish, instruct. predicti may have been another version of above. peregrina is an abstraction of peregrinus meaning wanderer, foreigner, pilgrim. Quidam pauper Hibernus Nomine has the following segment meanings Quidam - a kind of Pauper - beggar hibernus - ? nomine - by name Possibly 'A kind of beggar with no name' inconjugatae - seems to be an abstraction of the english word conjungate which I think means something along the lines of breaking down. As in we conjugate nouns by reading through the various parts of them. cujusdam - No word relating to this or any part of it exists in the dictionary I have. ----Original Message Follows---- From: Tut <tut@tutton.org> To: WESSEX-PLUS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [WSX] A bit of Latin? The odds of this happening with such an unusual name in one small place would be huge. Can anyone tell me if these names ring bells in anyones family tree. I am wondering if there is a mistake. James Large himself was my ggg-gfather. and accord to IGI does not seem to have any siblings in Easthampstead however on one census he put Warfield and Bracknell as place of birth which is nearby.
