    1. Re: [WSX] TYLER and TAYLOR
    2. Paul Benyon
    3. Hi Joan Tyler or tiler could also refer to someone who laid tiles internally for flooring and sometimes walls, as well as roofs - tiles made of various materials were a commonly used material in larger UK houses, especially in kitchens and other utility rooms, in the 19th century, which often ties in on the census with someone who is also described as a plasterer ie someone who plasters ceilings and walls internally in larger houses as well perhaps as plastering houses externally, especially when built with plaster and laith. So no connection with Taylor :-) Paul Portland On Fri, 26 Jan 2001 11:29:38 EST, you wrote: >Hi all, > >I've received some information concerning an ancestor and the occupation >listed is "tyler and plasterer". 2. Hi all, I've received some information concerning an ancestor and the occupation listed is "tyler and plasterer". I assume "tyler" must have something to do with roofing but what is more interesting is the name of my ancestor is TAYLOR. I'm wondering if perhaps there is some connection between the occupation and the last name --that is -could the word "tyler" have become "taylor" over time? Any comments appreciated. 3. Hi Paul I think that perhaps you might have a corrupt installation or file - the Control Bar has installed OK on my PC and I've just done a test print out of parishes within 5 miles of Bridport and had a look at the help file which worked fine and as you say has a diagram showing the control bar etc. Can only suggest you try and download it again, especially as the control bar gives you the option of having alternative views of the data and the ability to filter subsets of the data which I've found particularly useful eg just to be able to look at Dorset parishes etc - one can also look at a brief resume of dates of PRs for a particular parish Regards Paul Portland On Fri, 26 Jan 2001 07:46:53 -0000, you wrote: >Hi Paul and All! > >As you say this program is certainly more comprehensive than the earlier >one. 3. Kingsweston, Bristol is in fact an administrative part of Bristol and covers Lawrence Weston and a part of Sea Mills/Combe Dingle. Lawrence Weston where I am happy to live and bring up our children has suffered from a bad press. We have our own Roman Ruins - being an old Roman bathhouse and our own ancient Quakers burial ground. All we are missing is the village pond on the green- although we do have the duck pond on Napier Miles Road. Rich people and snobs prefer to tell people that they live in Kingsweston rather than Lawrence Weston. 3. Hi Judith I would suggest that if your relative was a well known cricketer then your best bet would be to try and obtain a look-up from the Wisden Cricket Almanac. Maybe one of the cricket newsgroups can help: England.Sport.Cricket rec.sport.cricket rec.sport.cricket.info rec.sport.cricket.scores uk.sport.cricket Regret I don't know which would be the most suitable! I see that they also do look-ups on the Wisden site at: http://www.wisden.com/ Might be worth a try?
