    3. Hi Mike! I think you're basically correct and my interpretation is "son of a poor female stranger", literally "travelling woman" but this probably gives the wrong impression. 2. Hi. Can I thank everyone who send me messages following my Dad's death the week before last. It's very comforting to know that thoughts and prayers are being offered up for him all around the world. Particular thanks to Eleanor for the lovely poem, and Harry Tadd for helping me find dad's regimental badge, which I've been able to include on the Service Sheet. Best wishes. Colin Hunt

    1. [WSX] School Photographs Website-Update
    2. Paul Benyon
    3. Forwarded for information: Hi Everyone Just a quick mail (hopefully) to let you all know of a few changes to the Schools Photographs site. As of today the site has a new name, due to the amount of interest in incorporating other information into the site. It will now be called the UK Schools Interests Site though the URL will not be changing and the main aim of this site will still be collection photographs (of which there are now more than 800). The Look Ups, Requests and Reunions pages are now housed in the UK Schools History Group section of the site (easily accessible from the entrance page). I would ask that you all take a very brief look at the site to see if you have any information that could be included or if you are able to offer any assistance to anyone who is enquiring about schools which may be in your area. There is also a mailing list which is for open for anyone to join with an interest in Schools in the UK. Possibly the most important alteration is the time it now takes to download the images on ! the site. It has been reduced drastically as all photographs have now been altered to thumbnails. This also means that it is now possible to view a larger image than before on most pictures (invaluable especially on photographs of the pupils). Once again though, thank you to everyone for your continued support for this site and the amount of emails I am receiving from people who have found something of interest is wonderful. Kind Regards Kim Bewick www.schoolphotos.f2s.com Listowner for UK-SCHOOLS-L@rootsweb.com To subscribe to the schools list simply send an email to: UK-SCHOOLS-L-request@rootsweb.com with the word "subscribe" in the body of the mail.

    1. [WSX] Boy, Boys Boyes Marlborough and Devizes 1700's
    2. Barbara Walker
    3. Has anyone come across any connections with JOHN BOY (b 1766, chairmaker in Devizes) m. Sarah Stevens (b Marlborough) whose son William Boy went to London, from Marlborough and became a clock maker. The records for the family seem to switch quite happily from Boy to Boys to Boyes according to who was doing the paperwork at the time. I am researching my London/East End family from the point of view of migration routes to the capital and rural workers. I wait with bated breath!! Any ideas gratefully received. Thanks Barbara Walker

    1. [WSX] 1841 census for Iwerne and Sixpenny Handley, Dorset
    2. Annette.Musker
    3. Does anyone have access to the above? I'm trying to help a friend track down his gtgtgtgrandfather, George Derrick, who very inconsiderately eloped with Charlotte Emma Gain, of Minstead Hampshire, to Brightingsea, Sussex, where they married in 1838. Their marriage certificate reveals absolutely nothing about them - no ages, occupations or parents. It was clearly a forbidden love match. By 1851 Charlotte was to be found living in Sixpenny Handley, along with her two daughters, Selina (b. 1840 in Iwerne) and Georgiana (b. 1844?) and her son Lewis George (b. 1842 in Woodcutt, Handley), but there is no sign of George. I would be most grateful if anyone having access to the 1841 census would kindly check these villages to see whether George's parish of origin is given. Without this we are completely stuck on this, my friend's main line. Cheers Annette of Wales

But as these names are not exactly uncommon in this area you'll have to be far more specific about exactly who you are interested in - and where and when and what information and sources you already have eg you presumably have 1881 census: have you got 1851 census data? Please repond to the list otherwise your mail might get lost! Paul Portland Wessex LO
