    3. BROWN, WHITEMARSH, HAPSGOOD, ASH, ABBOT, LEGGE The above names were all found in a little birthday book that I think may have belonged to Mrs. Kate Studley and beside each one there is either a (T.P.S.) or it may be a (Y.P.S.) I found what I think are the some of these names in the 1881 census. The ones that I located were all about the same age (between 5 and 12). They were from various locations. Jan. 20 Hilda BROWN, 26 Southy St. Bristol, St.James, 5 years in 1881 Feb. 14 Annetta WHITEMARSH, Blandford, Dorset, 9 in 1881 April 17 Helen HAPSGOOD not found April 25 Jean ASH not found Dec 10 May ABBOT, Bideford Devon, 12 in 1881 Dec 26 Linda LEGGE, Shroton, Dorset, 8 in 1881 Any suggestions as to where this group of young girls or apparently unmarried ladies may be together in the 1890s or later ? The penmanship would suggest young ladies. Do you know any of the above? Bill, Newmarket, Ontario I am trying to trace my ggrandfather CHARLES LETTY BRYANT who has a "blind brother HENERY STUDLEY (BRYANT)" and the mysterious MRS. KATE STUDLEY .

    1. [WSX] HEALE INFORMATION/WOOTTON BASSETT
    2. Hello to all, I need some help to determine if my process of trying to locate ancestors is a valid one. I realize more checking would be needed but am I on the right track? All names are Wootton Bassett,Wiltshire. HEALE John HEALE married Ann Edmunds October12 1778 witnessed by Richard Jeffries. They had seven children named Mary, George, Alicia, Jasper, Sarah,John, Thomas. I started looking for the father of John HEALE and came across a marriage bertween George HEALE and Mary JEFFRIES on January 28,1757. Their children were Mary (died), George (died),John (born 1759), Ann,William, Mary,Thomas and Joanna. I then started looking for the father of George HEALE but the only marriage I came across in a possible time frame was between John HEALE and Elizabeth SKEATES. They had children Mary, George (born 1720),John and William. But this would have made George HEALE 37 at the time of his marriage to Mary JEFFRIES. I'm assuming (a) this isn't George's father; (b) George's father (John) may have been married twice; (c) George's father John came from elsewhere or (d) George's father John married late in life. I'd appreciate any help on this so I know what direction I should be heading in. Best Joan in Freeport,N.Y. PS: Will be happy to check on Baptisms (1594-1837) or Burials (1584- 1837) in WOOTTON BASSETT for anyone needing such information. SUBJECT HEADING should read WOOTTON BASSET RECORDS

    1. [WSX] Thomas Alfred Cawte
    2. chrislock
    3. Hello all, Can anyone help me with my brick wall! I have Thomas Alfred Cawte age 16 in the 1891 census, but cant find him in the 1881 census. What I am looking for is Agnes Louisa Grace Cawte age 32 Thomas Alfred Cawte age 6. Bessie J. Cawte age 1, their father was a marine fireman so he is probably at sea. My line of thinking is that maybe there were older children than Thomas as on their marriage cert of Agnes and John they were married in 1870, which means they would have been married for 5 years without any children. Help, he has to have been somewhere. Thanks Annette.

    3. Oops, realized that Daphne couldn't get this. Daphne, check out www.swangen.co.uk, it looks like George's wife and daughter were living in All Cannings in 1851. ----Original Message Follows---- From: Paul Benyon <pbtyc@netscapeonline.co.uk> Reply-To: pbtyc@netscapeonline.co.uk To: WESSEX-PLUS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [WSX] SOUTHBROOM Date: Mon, 26 Feb 2001 08:27:48 +0000 Hi Daphne The Wiltshire and Swindon Record Office List of Parish Registers indicates that Southbroom St James Parish Registers are now included under Devizes, North Wilts and that PRs are available at the Wiltshire RO as follows: Baptisms: 1572-1974 Marriages: 1572-1979 Burials: 1572:1946 Cassell's Gazetteer states that in 1900 the parish was partly within the borough of Devizes and that the church was rebuilt in 1834, apart from the tower. I note that the IGI Catalogue states that Southbroom was a chapelry within the parish of Bishop's Cannings which is 3 miles to the NE of Devizes, until 1832, when it became a perpetual curacy ie a curacy in which all the tithes are appropriated, and no vicarage is endowed - per Blackstone. The LDS appear to have the BTs and the PRs.
