    2. Mike Matthews
    3. Does anyone have any BAKER interests in Longfleet, Dorset? I know that my g-g-grandfather's sister Mary Hippisley CURTIS married a W H BAKER (no first names known as yet) sometime after 1881 and had at least three children - Robert, Bertha and William. I've just found an envelope addressed to Mrs W H BAKER at "Fernville", Longfleet, Poole, Dorset. Unfortunately the actual letter is missing!! Mike Matthews listowner: NECK-L@rootsweb.com email: mike@boddyparts.co.uk website: www.boddyparts.co.uk ~ my website includes info about my CURTIS, HIPPISLEY, MATTHEWS, HEAD, SMITH, BODDY, NATION, JENKINS, TOY and NECK ancestors, as well as two pages of photos from around Bristol and the West Country of England.

    1. [WSX] SEEMS(SIMS) and TREHERN, Woodhay
    2. Can anybody out there please help me??? Henry SEEMS and Ann TREHERN were married 1753 East Woodhay, Hants. Ann was bapt 1728, Coombe, d of Thomas and Mary nee OATES. Henry was probably Henry SIMS s of Richard and Esther nee POCOCK bapt West Woodhay 1727. What I am trying to find out is what happened to Henry and Ann after their marriage. They had no children bapt East or West Woodhay or any of the adjacent Hampshire parishes. They do not appear in the Hampshire or Wiltshire Burial Indexes. Did they move to Berkshire? Or did they perhaps settle in Linkenholt, Hants, for which no PR survive between 1750 and 1780? (except the Phillimore Marriage transcripts) In particular, I am looking for anything which might either confirm or eliminate them as parents of William SEEMS or SIMS who marr Frances GLASS Easton Royal, Wilts, 1776. William and Frances called their eldest son Henry and their eldest daughter Ann. They settled for several years in Faccombe, which is adjacent to the Woodhays (and Linkenholt). Any help/advice, etc would be very wecome. Dorothy

    1. Re: [WSX] Sarah George GIBBONS: COLES & GLYDE Families.
    2. Ellen Duffy
    3. Min Sarah George GIBBONS was baptised 13 September 1835 at Doulting, Somerset and was the daughter of James GIBBONS and Sarah nee GEORGE of Bodden Farm, Doulting. As far as I know she was one of five children of James and Sarah. I suspect the James GIBBONS who registered her death was her father, although I only have information on him up to 1851. But then I've not looked in Crewkerne for this family. I will now add this to my to do list. In the 1851 census Sarah was working as the housekeeper for her uncle, Stephen GIBBONS at Croscombe. Unfortunately, I don't have the reference to hand, but I can let you have it if you wish. James GIBBONS and Sarah nee GEORGE were married on 10 January 1825 at Batcombe, Somerset by licence. Their other children were Henry GIBBONS baptised 21 Apr 1829 at Batcombe; Mary Ann GIBBONS baptised 15 April 1831 at Doulting; Thomas John GIBBONS baptised 20 January 1832 Doulting and dead by 1841; and Elizabeth GIBBONS baptised 20 October 1839 Doulting, but possibly dead by 1851. James GIBBONS was the son of John GIBBONS and Elizabeth nee GILES of Batcombe, Somerset. He was the seventh of their 11 children. Thanks to a distant cousin I have extensive information on the GIBBONS family and I am happy to share this if you reply off-list. I am descended from John GIBBONS' brother Henry GIBBONS and his wife Sarah HUTTON. If anyone else recognises any of the above names, do get in touch. Is is a little village in Gloucestershire approx 5 mile from Stroud. Take the A419 from Stroud to Cirencester when you come to the village of Chalford turn left into the village and follow the signs for Bisley. I must warn you the road is narrow, in places and in the village they are very narrow. Good hunting Alf

    3. Hi Researchers. I am interested in finding out who are researching names in and around my home area of Berkeley/ Stone, and surrounding areas. As you may have noticed I have been stumbling around the graves (not falling into them, yet.) Looking for surnames some I found others, not. If you have a name send it to me and leave the rest to me, you may never know there may be other's looking for the same name. It has happened two day ago with a Cornock surname, two researchers unaware of each other they are now in contact with each other. The other areas are Stinchombe, North Nibley, Tortworth,Charfield,Cromhall,Rockhampton,Hill. By doing this we are recording the M.I. for ever and helping others. regards Alf Beard.

Also if you click on the Old Maps tag-line at the bottom of this page and following the links in your IE to Birdsall, Yorkshire you can see a map for 1855 and will be able to relate the features of then and now. My line of Bryants were once Briants but someone ( my g. g. grandfather I think) changed the spelling. I am also chasing anyone with an interest in the Mist family. If you haven't already done so you might like to consider joining Dorset List: DORSET-L-request@rootsweb.com where you should find much local knowledge. You might also consider having a look at the Dorset Exchange page at: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Ranch/5973/dorset.htm where I believe someone is sometimes able to do look-ups as long as they are brief. Researchers in Dorset should be aware that most of the Bishop's Transcripts for Dorset went up in flames in the great fire at Blandford Forum in 1732, hence the LDS has few records for Dorset before this date: in addition the LDS has not been allowed to film many Dorset Parish Registers and as a result, with a few exceptions, we only have the BTs. Dorset Record Office has most of the PRs though, although, in view of errors and omissions, it is normally best to consult both, if possible! In vew of the fact that the East Stour (Stower) entries are mainly early Patron Submissions by members of the LDS Church: in view of the reputation of these records I should be inclined to treat them with "great care" and treat them as extremely doubtful until proven otherwise! Other list members may like to comment on their experiences with these records. However, having said that controlled extractions of Bishop's Transcripts and Parish Registers are normally well worth following up in the appropriate registers. The clue lies in the batch numbering of controlled extractions!! Patron submissions normally only have a film reference. Regards Paul Portland

    3. I am trying to find my gr.gr.grandfather George STONE,a saddler, in 1851.He was born in 1829 in Mere, Wilts, so would be 22 in 1851. He married in Mere in 1853 and lived there until his death in 1908 except for a short time in 1860s when he lived in Gillingham,Dorset. He is not on the 1851 census for Mere,East or West Knowle,Monckton Deverill, Kingston Deverill, or Maiden Bradley. I believe he may have been off apprenticing as a saddler or harness maker. Could someone please check the 1851 census for Bourton and Gillingham to see if he is there. He may have been with a Thomas Landerwick, saddler, in Bourton. There were STONEs in both of these places.
