    2. Janette Kennedy
    3. Silly me forgetting to mention Time scale. I don't know Martha's date of birth or anything about her. Edward, the man she married was born in 1789 and they were married circa 1810. Their first child was born 1814, the last 1834 after which there is no mention of her. Jan Kennedy

    1. [WSX] MARTHA CHITTY
    2. Janette Kennedy
    3. Hello Fellow Researchers, Can anyone help me find the place where MARTHA CHITTY came from and got married? She is one of my ancestorsShe married a Dorset born man EDWARD GENGE (OR GANGE) who was brought up in Somerset, then went to live in Gosport Alverstoke Hants where their many children were born and raised. One of their sons George is my GGGrandfather. I have searched the web for sightings of this Martha Chitty but it seems that I alone know she was even called Chitty - everyone else calls her Martha (Genge). I don't think they married in Gosport as the LDS have a lot of info. on the children baptised and married in that area, but call her Martha Genge and have no pedigree for her. She does not seem to be on the records for the Somerset transcriptions of marriages, and I am awaiting the Dorset ones. Perhaps someone out there can put me out of my misery, and give me some idea where to start looking for her and her ancestors. Thanks in advance, Jan Genge Kennedy

    1. [WSX] LILES Tabitha, Marshfield and neighbourhood, GLS
    2. Ian and Jo Jeremiah
    3. Hi Listers, If anyone is looking in the parish registers for Marshfield and neighbourhood, would you keep an eye out for Tabitha LILES/LISLES/LYALS, and any members of her family, please. ( I have information on this name from the Vital Records Index.) Tabitha was born c.1823 in Marshfield, GLS, but I don't have her baptism details and know nothing about her family. (I have the 1851 and 1881 censuses so know of the existence of some LILES families but can't make a link without parish register information.) I have her 1851 -1881 census details when she was living in Oldland, Bitton, GLS with her husband, William HANCOCK, and family plus 1891 census details, when she was a widow. 2. All the lists I belong to seem to be 'suffering' from a shortage of emails !! There is nothing like the amount of postings there used to be and I am wondering if the problem lies with Rootsweb. .......Any idea listowners?? I notice that all the Rootsweb archive pages are down and have been for some time, so maybe they're still working on the system? Joy

I have made various searches on the Genuki site and others and am now a bit stuck as I'm not very close to these areas to just pop along and visit. Many thanks for any information. 2. Colin Sanders
    3. Hello Everyone My grandfather is proving very hard to trace. He was a horse jockey/trainer and involved in that in the Marlborough, Wilts. area around 1910. I wonder if anyone knows of any records of employees, perhaps, that may show him. Story has it he was killed riding but I believe whilst on a trip overseas. I have so little to go & for years have not been able to get a lead on this one. Very grateful for any suggestions Jean in New Zealand

    1. [WSX] List of records
    2. Tina
    3. Hi list, Just found this. It's a list of films stored at the LDS (Mormon) Church's Dartmouth Family History Centre in Nova Scotia. It takes a bit of time to unload a huge pdf file. http://nsgna.ednet.ns.ca/fhc/indef.pdf I couldn't tell if the film numbers listed were IGI film numbers. It's fascinating to see what details are available. There are 333 pages of lists, containing references to very many records from the British Isles. Our records start at page 64 of 333 with the Channel Islands, England and Ireland (couldn't find any from Wales). The British Isles records continue to page 205, and then resume at page 212 with a page of old military records. Irish records start at page 214, and pages 229 and 230 are for the Isle of Man. Scotland records start at page 236 ending on page 282. If anybody is lucky enough to have access to the Dartmouth records, this list is very useful. If you don't happen to live near Dartmouth, Nove Scotia you might be as fascinated as I was to find out what records have been filmed. I've not seen a comprehensive list available over the internet of which films can be seen at LDS Family History Centres in the UK. Tina

    3. Dear Judy, My apologies if this question has already been answered. If you put the title of the CD into a search engine such as google http://www.google.com/ you will come up with several sources that sell this CD in the USA. Do compare sites as the price does vary a bit. Regards Roger Shirley Cairns, Australia

    1. [WSX] PARSONS, EVERETTS in Gloucestershire
    2. Ann Parsons
    3. Having done some research in Gloucester Record Office last week, I hit a problem in both the lines I was researching and ran out of time. I traced my George Parsons's baptism on the 1st January 1824 in Newnham, his parents being John and Mary, who also had a son James baptised in 1822. But I could not trace anything else for John and Mary. Anyone else researching this family? Also, on the Everetts side, I traced the baptism of Hannah Everet(t)s in Blakeney on the 26th June 1831, parents being William and Sarah. But I could not trace any other mention of William and Sarah. There was another couple - Thomas and Amy Everetts - in Blakeney at the time, but I could not establish a relationship. Can anyone help? Ann Parsons Bere Ferrers Devon

No doubt the WRO at Trowbridge can advise you! I have some CLIFT rellies who were involved in the Westbury and Westbury Leigh Baptist Church but have still to follow this branch any further. I'll send the e-mail address of my informant off-list if you wish, but the address is 2 or 3 years out-of-date. It seems that most of the villages in the area had their Baptist Chapel during the 19th Century and I note (looking at the Old-maps site) that not far from Westbury Leigh Penknap also had a Particular Baptist Chapel very close by. 2. Paul Benyon
    3. Hi Sally I see that you've been advised that the registration letters refer to Somerset. In which case if the records for what I seem to remember used to be called the Local Taxation Office still exist then the Somerset Record Office should be the place to look. Unfortunately the Somerset Records Office Web Site is off-line at the moment, but if you try tomorrow and have a look at the Archives List Search Page at: http://www.somerset.gov.uk/archives/asp/querylst.asp and input Local Taxation Office or Vehicle Licences it would be interesting to see if you receive any hits. Alternatively you could write to the archives department at: Somerset_Archives@compuserve.com and see if they can provide anything additional to that already suggested on the list? 3. Hi Again Sally! Further to my previous message, I've discovered that 2 letters followed by 4 numbers was replaced by 3 letters and 3 numbers in 1934. So YC 3131 must have been registered in Taunton, Somesrset probably between 1928 and 1934. 3. Yvonne, Try this one for size ... they are sub-pages of the DVLA. http://www.dvla.gov.uk/histm_l/history.htm In my "I-Spy" book of car numbers :-) , YC was the registration for Somerset. This means that the car was originally bought in Somerset, but the car would normally have kept the same registration, wherever it went in the UK until it was scrapped. In Somerset the plates used to be issued by the County Council. For many years the service has been centralised at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) in Wales. People can also buy novelty plates from the DVLA, e.g. a magician has bought the number MAG 1 C. Here is the main welcome page for the DVLA. http://www.dvla.gov.uk/welcome.htm Tina ----- Original Message ----- From: Yvonne Willmot (via <pbtyc@netscapeonline.co.uk>) <ywillmot@hotmail.com> To: <WESSEX-PLUS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, March 04, 2001 9:35 PM Subject: [WSX] date for car registration? > > Forwarded > > On Sun, 4 Mar 2001 14:28:04 -0700, "Yvonne Willmot" > <ywillmot@hotmail.com> wrote: > > Hi Folks > > I recently received a photograph which I would like to date. > > I imagine from the style of dress it would be between 1920 -1935, BUT > the car in the photo is a touring car possibly a Morris with a soft top, > and a clear Registration number YC 3131. > > I'm wondering if its possible to get a date for this registration and > where I could obtain such information, as I am in New Zealand.
