This family appears in the Visitation of Dorset in 1623. Does anyone know anything about it after that time? Many thanks Sara White

This is the occupation given for a 25 year old married woman in a small village in 1881. It is unknown to the (concise) Oxford English Dictionary and I don't possess any book on old trades and occupations. Can anyone explain it to me. Many thanks Sara White
I wonder if there is some kind and knowledgeable Wsx lister who can tell me anything about the SMITH family who were occupiers of the Bear Inn 24 Dyer Street Cirencester in 1881. I have the Census CD entry showing William Basil SMITH aged 50 as the licensed victualler with wife Sarah Ann. What I am seeking is information about the family connections as I believe they are the key to solving my MUTLOW and SMITH MUTLOW puzzles. Usually takes a few days plus for a reply. Regards Roger Shirley Cairns, Australia

Hi Noticed the name ROSSITER on the list. I looked in Bath Poll-book 1855 ('being a list of the names of persons with their residence and calling, who voted or were entitled to vote, at the election of a member for the city and borough of Bath, June 4th 1855: with the amount at which each voter is assessed to the poor rate') Found James ROSSITER, Fishponds, Lyncombe, gardener. paid £17 poor rate. cheers Angie in Fremantle BUTLER in Bath 1875-1928, ROSE & POOLE in Bristol 1827-1900, PORTER in Bedminster 1825, MOCKRIDGE in Som. or Glos. Hello there, As Paul says Kew do not do searches. I can provide the name of a private researcher whose services I have used if anybody wants to know. The researcher in question researched my g-grandfather's army records for me. He charged about £15 per hour and the whole lot, including several photocopies, cost me not much more than £30 about 18 months ago. He said that it wouldn't have takenn him so long but the records weren't in the right place so he searched amongst adjacent records and eventually came across them tucked inside another person's papers.
