    1. [WSX] Somerset Light Infantry
    2. (Crossposted) I have been loaned a book entitled 'From Normandy to Hanover'. It is the story, similar to a war diary, of the 7th Battalion, the Somerset Light Infantry from June 1944 to May 1945, and contains amongst other things the complete battle honours of the battalion between those dates. The book was privately published. Before I return the volume to it's owner, I am willing to do lookups. I have crossposted this message because I know that many members of the battalion came from counties other than Somerset. 'Die dulci fruere' Ian James, Poole, Dorset, UK. 3. To everyone, My apologies for any virus infected messages you may have received from me - my PC was accidentally infected with the recent trojan virus (the party responsible for causing my PC to be infected has been dealt with!!) and so there may have been infected messages sent. I have removed the virus and hopefully it wont happen again (fingers crossed). Once again sorry, Regards Kevin Ettery

    3. Hi Regret the following is going to be a bit contentious, however, I think list members should be aware of what I have done and intend doing. It is apparent that if a message is sent to someone who has the virus that the virus will then reply to the writer attaching itself. I have, therefore, removed a number of list members this afternoon who I know have the virus and I will remove any list member who I find has the virus in the future. I have written separately to these members and am awaiting the pay back at the present time in the form of another virus! Once a member has cleaned his/her machine they can resubscribe BUT only by writing to me - a normal subscribe message will not be accepted by Rootsweb. My apologies for this rather drastic action - but if this reduces the chances of infection and quantity of virus prompted mail I am prepared to accept that. Wonderful people in this list have helped in the past, but we have never been able to find where the following members come from. Le me say that the family so far traced come from Martock, East Lamsbrook and Kingsbury Episcopi. The members George Bambury (1837 East Lamsbrook )and Dorcas ( Inder ) Bambury ( 1837/8 East Lamsbrook ) emigrated to South Africa in the last 1800 early 1900 (still to be proven ), now my problem lies with their oldest son Sidney George Bambury (1862 ?? ) who married Mary ( May) Rex ( 1859 ) either in England or Australia. I am looking for something to prove where he was born, as I can not pick him up from any census where his family lived. The person I would really like any information on is George M. Bambury ( ? ) he married Kezia Inder ( 09/05/1823 Kingsbury Episcopi ) It is believed that George's father was Isaac Bambury and may have come from Wiltshire, and that he had a brother Jacob Bambury amongst others and maybe sisters as well. If SKS could look up the census for the area's around Somerset and or Wiltshire I would be humbly appreciative. Best wishes from South Africa And to all thoughts that have been affected by the Foot & Mouth our prey's go out to you. Regards Ian

    3. Further to Linda's posting I note from the mail that I received this morning that someone else on the list also appears to have the W32.Badtrans.13312@mm virus - I have written off-list! Firstly, unless you know what you are doing DO NOT open an attachment with any of the following or similar names: Pics.ZIP.scr images.pif README.TXT.pif New_Napster_Site.DOC.scr news_doc.scr hamster.ZIP.scr YOU_are_FAT!.TXT.pif searchURL.scr SETUP.pif Card.pif Me_nude.AVI.pif Sorry_about_yesterday.DOC.pif s3msong.MP3.pif docs.scr Humor.TXT.pif fun.pif also Sorry_about_yesterday.DOC.pif may appear as Sorry_about_yesterday.DOC or Sorry_about_yesterday.pif, depending on your file set-up: IF you do you may launch a virus that replies to all unread mails in your email message folders, taking a copy of the virus with it to your relation, friend and fellow list members! In addition it drops a backdoor Trojan onto your computer which can compromise your security settings allowing access from the web to such as passwords etc For further information on the little beasty I would suggest that you have a look at either: http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.badtrans.13312@mm.html or http://www.sophos.co.uk/virusinfo/analyses/w32badtransa.html So, in summary, as Linda said "don't panic, but do be aware: keep your anti-virus software up to date and don't open ANY attachments that you aren't expecting, even if the e-mail is from someone you know and love - check with them first to ensure they have sent you something deliberately, rather than by accident! Siblings William, George and Julia Susan. Married Walter Sidney Clegg in 1882. Parents were John Barrett and possibly Sarah Boyd. In 1871 John was a pedlar and Sarah was a straw bonnet maker. On the BVRI, a John Barrett m. Sarah Boyd 1837. Sarah's father was Jacob Ferris, and on the Melksham Pr's I found Sarah Boyd, ill. dau. of Sarah Boyd (I think, would have to check) a loose and disorderly woman, Melksham. This was abt. 1816 and the age would fit for Sarah Barrett in the '71 and '81 censuses. Anyone know them? 2. Carole Foster
    3. Hi to all researchers, My 3rd great grandfather was sent to Australia in 1829 onboard "Claudine" could SKS check the Frome records for his birth. Unfortunately, I do not have a lot of information, "JOHN PAYNE born about 1812 a native of Frome" is how the Australian records record his arrival, in 1839 he applied to the local minister for permission to marry a girl under 21 yrs. of age, and didn't give any additional information on the application. I would greatly appreciate it if someone with access to the Frome baptismal register could check for a possible birth c.1811-1813. 3. Phyllis I don't know that I have any connections with these families, but I have NIPPRESS ancestry from the Swindon area of Wiltshire. They gradually moved in a north-easterly direction during the 1800's, and eventually arrived here in Oxford. NIPPRESS seems to have been spelled in loads of different ways, and NIPPER, NIPPERED and NIPPERD are some of the more remote variants. Are you aware of any North Wiltshire connections in your research ? I posted my interest in these names on the Wiltshire-EMI list around Christmas, and got just one response - Tony Woodward very kindly sent me some 1891 census extracts. Is there anyone else out there besides Phyllis with an interest in these names ? If so, I'd love to hear from you !
