    3. Hi List, If anyone has parish records for Tisbury I too would like to ask for a lookup. I'm interested in any Harford but in particular William and Elizabeth Harford and their children. Thank you very much, Eileen ----- Original Message ----- From: Tina To: [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, January 28, 2003 11:05 AM Subject: [WSX] Mullins, Wiltshire ?? Hello, I may just have found an ancestor living in Wiltshire at the time of the 1851 census. This was not where I expected to find her, as she was married in 1860 in another county. If anything, I guessed that she might have been born in Ireland! 'My' Juliana Mullins was aged 24 in 1860, when she married in a Catholic Church. Her father was listed as Francis Mullins (deceased). The entry I have found in the 1851 census is in Wardour, Wilts. A 15 year old girl called Juliana Mullins was working as a servant in the Catholic Church there. The age and faith seem to tie in with 'my' Juliana. The girl on the census was born in Tisbury, Wilts. However, there is no record of her birth on the on-line IGI (or BVRI), so I can't easily find out if her father was called Francis. Does anybody have any records for Tisbury, who could do a look-up to see if a Juliana was baptised there? I have no books or fiches for Wiltshire at all, as I did not know of any possible connection with the county until today. 1. [WSX] Next week's OFHS Computer Group meeting
    2. Paul Gaskell
    3. Colleagues The next meeting of the Computer Group of the Oxfordshire Family History Society will be held next Monday 3 February 2003 at Oxford University Computing Services, 13 Banbury Road, Oxford. This is located just to the north of St Giles. Doors open at 7:15 pm for coffee, with the presentation starting at around 7.30pm. The evening will feature a demonstration by Kevin Tomes entitled "Scanning and retouching old photographs". This will be similar to the demonstrations done previously by Kevin at the society's Open Day - except that the superior facilities next week will mean that he is able to use an overhead projector linked to a large screen so that all attendees will have a prime view. Kevin is, of course, a director of the well-known Oxford printing firm "Parchment", and is something of an expert in this field. All members, potential members and their guests are welcome. For directions to get there, please see the map linked to the society's website at :- www.ofhs.org.uk For a list of future meetings of the OFHS see :- http://www.ofhs.org.uk/meetings.html Any queries, please contact me off-list. 3. hello list, has anyone researching Dorset connections come across the name Penninah? I have two, one is my great aunt, surname BEST born 1876 in Tarrant Gunville. She was apparently named after another relative though we have no idea of her surname. The 'lost' Penninah died in Salisbury at a great age somewhere around 1930. Regards Bob Sanders Cardiff Wales -----Original Message----- From: Ross Richards [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: 20 January 2003 22:30 To: [email protected] Subject: [WSX] Favourite Websites Hi there fellow lister. Do you know that some of us who have been playing around wiith genealogy on our computers assume an awful lot!!! I was asked to speak at a genealogy society meeting in a small NZ town recently and decided that the use of computers in researching and making contact with others with similar interests was the way I was going to go. It amazed me how few even knew how to use batch numbers on IGI to search out other family members from the same parish church. I took with me a photocopied selection of some of my favourite sites and found that most were unknown to them - consequently I'm going to share them with you as I know some of you will find them of value. GENUKI UK & IRELAND http://www.genuki.org.uk/mindex.html A great wealth of information here as well as links to as much again. Great lookups also offered in seperate counties. Also some online cencus and parish records. NB there is also a search engine for this site:- http://www.genuki.org.uk/search.html COMMONWEALTH GRAVES http://cwgc.org/ Fascinating historical stuff here. WORLD CONNECT http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi I was particularly fortunate in finding two branches of my family on this and was able to make contact with two more distant relies. UK ARCHIVES www.a2a.pro.gov.uk Here you need to use all possible spelling of a surname eg Crump in the 1600s was spelt Cromp Crompe Crump Crumpe. 1901 BRITISH CENCUS www.cencus.pro.gov.uk doesn't cost to find names but to get details it does. Rather than print off the sheets I saved them to disk to save time and printed them later when I wasn't paying for my time - pays to get organized before you start paying and find the folk first so you are getting best value for your dollar when downloading. GENEALOGY LINKS www.genealogylinks.net/ UK SURNAMES LIST www.county-surnames.co.uk/index.mv UK BIRTH MARRIAGES DEATHS http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl A vast number of records between 1837-1902 Still incomplete but another 4 million odd added on New Years Eve. A great way of finding wives surnames. FAMILY SEARCH - IGI, 1881 cencus and more. http://familysearch.org/ As stated above, this site can be used in a variety of ways. Remember when using batch numbers to change the last number as bigger parish records are split up into time periods. The C can sometimes be replaced with a P, and by using a M instead you find the marriages. BATCH NUMBER http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~tyeroots/index4.html Here are a number of batch numbers for churches sorted by county. TRADE DIRECTORIES www.historicaldirectories.org/ VILLAGES/FAMILIES UK http://curiousfox.com/ A new site which could prove interesting - it's up to you to add your bit. NEW ZEALAND GENEALOGY SEARCH ENGINE http://downtown.co.nz/genealogy/ Must be good - it accesses my site as well as lots of shipping records etc. AUSSIE/NZ BMD www.rootsweb.com/~ausbdm/ That'll keep some of you out of mischief for a while. Happy hunting Adrienne ______________________________

    3. Hi List, I have posted before - this brick wall of mine...but I am hoping afresh... that someone on the list may be able to help. I found on the IGI a marriage between a Sarah FOWLER and Robert LARCOMBE 21 MAY 1802 Axminster, Devon, England. My 4xGreat-Grandfather was Robert LARCOMBE b.1810c Devon/Somerset? He was transported to Australia onboard the JOHN BARRY in 1839. At the time of his crime, it was recorded that he was a Stone Mason Apprentice of 2½ years. His partner in crime was a John FOWLER who was also transported to Australia on the JOHN BARRY in 1839. From convict records in Australia, John would have been born about 1807. I am wondering if, John & Robert could have been related? Any assistance would be very much appreciated!!
