Hi Carolyn I dont know if this is of any use I found it on the British Isles Vital Record CD HART, Stephen Christening Gender: Male Christening Date: 3 Apr 1782 Recorded in: Melksham, Wiltshire, England Mother: Mary HART Source: FHL Film 1279376 Dates: 1701 - 1850 Best Wishes Eve
Does anyone have this CD from the Hampshire Society? If so can you tell me if all parishes in Hampshire are on this CD as they said it was complete. And would someone have a look for me. I am after KIRBY'S (plus a whole heap of other names but I won't go into them unless you want to go batty like me). At the moment I would like to find a Willliam KIRBY and his wife Mary they married 1786 Kings Sombourne after one child there they disappear. William was married before in 1774 so he would have be born approx.1750's???? and Mary maybe in the 1760's. Leonie
Hi I am new to this website. I have ancestors mostly in Gloucestershire England However I am looking for information on a Stephen HART born abt 1780/83.. In the 1851 census for Kingswood nr Wooton Underedge in Gloucestershire it said he was born in Westbury Wiltshire...Kingswood nr Wooton Underedge was also under the jurisdiction of Wiltshire at that time. I have not been able to find his parents or birth in either place. He married Elizabeth HOLLISTER and had ten children the first seven were baptized in the Church of England but the last three were bapt. in the Independent Church in Kingswood Wiltshire. Is there anyone related to the HART families from either of these areas? Regards Carolyn Ostler [email protected]
A document forwarded to me recently with information taken from the first log book of Castle Combe school has revealed that William S. Roberts succeeded my great-grandfather William Henry Tyler as Master of the school. William Tyler was there from October 1868 (despite one published book about the village stating it was 1869) until 15th August 1873, by which time his teaching status had risen several levels to Master 1st class. You can discover more about the history of the school from Trowbridge Records Office, where the school log books are now kept. The original building of 1826 in School Lane, which closed in 1998 when the local children were transferred to a new school in Yatton Keynell, has been converted into three private dwellings. Good luck with your research! Noreen Ayton (nee Tyler)

Hello everyone, I have come across a photograph at my local car boot sale here in Doncaster. It is a black and white photo of a 'Co op outing on Whitsuntide Monday 1930' It is a picure of a river boat filled with people. The life belts on the side of the boat say 'Majestic - Reading'. The photograph was developed by J.W. Spearman, 65 High Street Eton. There are roughly 65 people on board, and I just could not pass it by. If anyone feels they may have a member of their family on board please let me know. Terri

Colleagues Wednesday 11 June 2003 marks the second “Family Tree Day” in Oxfordshire, which on this occasion will be held at the Centre for Oxfordshire Studies. This will be a family history extravaganza not to be missed. Hosted by the staff of the Centre for Oxfordshire Studies in conjunction with the Oxfordshire Family History Society, the day will have numerous attractions including :- 1. computer demonstrations by some of the members of the society’s Computer Group. Topics likely to be covered include family history on the internet, family history data on CD and genealogy computer packages. 2. the chance to browse and make purchases from the society’s extensive bookstall. 3. the opportunity to make purchases of CD and microfiche from the society without incurring those irritating postal charges. The society’s computerised search services and birth brief index will also be available for consultation. However, probably the best feature of “Family Tree Day” will be the opportunity for family historians to consult records of relevance to their research with an expert at their elbow. The researcher will be able to use the Centre’s records and resources, and then to discuss their problems and findings with members of the society committee and other experienced family historians. We can’t guarantee that visitors will leave the venue with a complete pedigree back to William the Conqueror, but nevertheless we hope that the day will prove to be an enjoyable and thought-provoking event. “Family Tree Day” will be held on Wednesday 11 June 2003 at :- Centre for Oxfordshire Studies Central Library Westgate Oxford OX1 1DJ The event will start at 12.00 noon and end at 5.00pm. Admission is free and all visitors are welcome. Further information about “Family Tree Day” and about the Oxfordshire Family History Society can be obtained from the society’s website at :- www.ofhs.org.uk Further information about the Centre for Oxfordshire Studies and how to find it can be obtained from that office's website at :- http://www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/index/things_to_do/cos.htm Those with further specific queries can contact me by e-mail and I will do my best to help. Please does anyone have any information relating to this school or any of the teachers listed below? I am researching the history of Charlton Mackrell C of E Primary School - formerly West Charlton National School - initially for an exhibition at the 150th anniversary reunion weekend last summer and eventually in an illustrated book. We still possess logbooks, registers and other records dating back to the 1860s and have consulted items held in the Somerset and Dorset ROs, the PRO and the National Society's archives. The schoolmistress in 1851 was Miss Elizabeth Rooke, of London, who was succeeded by many different schoolmasters between 1853 and 1891 - W Jackson; W Wrigley; William Henry Tyler (later at Castle Combe); Benjamin Thomas; (W) George Burnett; George Bishop; James Orr; Francis Harris; Francis Mullins; Samuel Stocks; Alfred Carey; Frederick Davies and William Jewell Locke. From 1891 to 1927 the master was Edmund Butler and from 1927 to 1940 Walter James Long. There were of course also many assistant, infants and pupil teachers; the longest serving being Miss Eva Copping who retired in 1947 after 53 years at the school. I would be most grateful for any information (or suggestions for other research!) and will be pleased to provide further details if you have a connection. (I also have access to other information about Charlton Mackrell parish - including the adjacent village of Charlton Adam, which had a separate Infants School from 1865 to 1917.) Celia Mycock
My primary name interest are the ZELLEY and ZELLY names. For Dorset, I am interested in the names Zelley, Zealey, Zealy, Sealy and Sealy. These appear to be all variations of the same family group from the Fleet/Chickerell/Langton Herring area. Other names in the region of Weymouth/Wyke Regis include Lovell, Bowring, Baker, White, Symes, Flisher, Bellamy, Randall, Pearce, Ayles, and others. For the Tiverton/Silverton/Exeter area, I am interested in the Zelley , Zelly, Selley and Selly vartations. Other names include Cobley, Southcott, Wreaford, Gidney, Stafford, Hooper, Parkhouse and others Somerset - prime focus on Zelley name but the Gaylord name connected to Peter and Abraham Zelley in the IGI date of 1649 for Pitminster would be of interest ,or the Gill - Zelley connection of 1621 at Axbridge would be of interesr
