    1. [WSX] Second request for Seward .
    2. Lesley Forrest
    3. I am trying again because I drew a blank a few months ago! Does anyone on the list have a record of a Francis Seward born Chard circa 1814 on their trees/interest list? I have found him and family in all the Ilminster, Somerset censuses and have found his obituary of 1876. So I know he did exist! He married Jane BROWN in Ilminster and he was a tailor by occupation. I know that some parishes near Chard come under Devon or have been reassigned over the years so may be I have concentrated too much on Somerset. Any help would be appreciated Lesley ------------------------------------------------- Email: [email protected] Fax: UK: 08700 517479 International: +448700517479 -------------------------------------------------

    3. In my research into my FOOT(E) family in the general area of Berwick St John in the Wiltshire and Dorset borders have come across FOOT`S HILL at Cann. Is anyone aware of how it became so named and if it has any relevance to the FOOT family. There are records of baptisms in Cann from around the early 1700`s. Any clues much appreciated whether fact or myth! Robert in North Wales

    3. Does anyone know any stories/legends about "Culliver's Grave", a crossroads just outside East Coker? The historian of the village (now long dead) says that in 1936 it was remembered to have been called "Murder Plot Lane" but, infuriatingly, gives no reason as to why! Many thanks Sara White

    3. Can anyone help knock down a brick wall please! We are trying to establish the parents of Joseph FOOT born, thought, in Berwick St John c. 1760 in Wiltshire. He married Catherine Dibben/Dybben on 7th December 1785 at Gussage St Michael in Dorset. There appear to be two FOOT families in and around Berwick St John one of whom was very well off but each frequently used the same first names for their children and inconsequence there are several Josephs! It is thought that the two families were related at some stage. The two possible parents are Robert and Fortune FOOT of Berwick St John and Gussage St Michael and the other, possibly the best guess, is Joseph and Sarah ( nee Brewer ) of Sixpenny Handley Any clues at all appreciated to knock down a 20 year old wall. Also in researching surnames FOOTE, WITHERS, HALL and CROUCH in Devizes, Bristol and adjoining areas Robert

    1. [WSX] Hague family Westbury or Dilton Marsh
    2. Jeanne Mayer
    3. Please can anyone tell me where to look for information on the Hague family in Wiltshire. A message posted on another site got two replies telling me that the possible parents of Lemuel Hague born Westbury 1827, were Michael Hague & Miriam Watts. As Lemuels eldest daughter was called Miriam, this would probably be right, but can anyone tell me where to go from here? I am quite new to genealogy and would welcome any advice. I only subscibed to this site quite recently and find it interesting. Jeanne _________________________________________________________________ On the move? 2. David Cheek
    3. Dear List I have over the last few weeks transcribed those parts of the above PR's prior to 1754 which are readable and intact... There are several holes in the date period from 1629 - 1754 which were totally un-readable for a variety reasons, not least that they were not there, faded, illegible, torn, etc, etc......what has been transcribed now, is all that can be read (even with difficulty)...... Baptisms increased by 240, Burials by 220, and Marriages by 63 These updated transcriptions are located at http://www.pbenyon.plus.com/H_m_w/Brompton_Regis/Index.html Any further transcription work has been interrupted due to a debilitating sickness and hospitalisation at this time.... 1. [WSX] Elliott/Baker families of West Coker + Somerset Elliotts in Wales
    2. Vanessa Armstrong
    3. Hi I am trying to find out about the Elliott/Baker families of West Coker. Harriett Baker (b.1835???) + Charles Elliott (b.1830-32??) were married in December 1859. They appear on the 1881 census as living at 2 Hunts House, East Coker but both as having been born in West Coker. On the 1881 census Harriet is spelt with one 't' so i guess spelling was pretty variable... her age is given as 46 which gives an approximate birth date of 1835. Charles is down as 49 (but there is a Charles in the 1851 census who is 21 giving a date of 1830...). One of their children was a Jane who was also born at West Coker who is my Great-Grandmother. I would be grateful if anyone could help me out i would be grateful. Also any tips on where to go from here as i think official records only begin in 1837... I would also be interested to hear if there are any Elliott's with a Welsh connection as i think one of the Elliott sons or a cousin of Charles' may have gone to Wales. I think it was the Caerphilly/Glamorganshire area. None of the family are sure about this although they did go to visit an Uncle Jo Elliott in Caerphilly in the 1930s. Many thanks Vanessa Armstrong
