My own ancestors, Col. George Wells and his nephew Richard Wells, lived there from the 1760s thru the 1780s and I am a W003 DNA match. Wilkes County was a "jumping off place" for many families on their way west into other parts of Georgia and later to Alabama and Mississippi.
