I live in a suburb of Dayton, OH. Even though I am 64 years old, I have just began using a computer, so beat with me if I make a lot of mistakes! I have only been involved in genealogy 4 years. I, too, have been wondering about this incident ever since I came across it. I guess all I know is what you know. However, I can give you a genealogy going back to when our first adventurer, James 1, came over from Somerset, England. He was born circa: 1648 and died 1668 or 69 in Baltimore, MD. Lucy Hyder said she couldn't remember her great-grandfather's name. It was Jeremiah Wells. He was born sometime between 1789 and 1792, and died 18 NOV 1845. Jeremiah's father was Zachariah Wells, Jr. Born circa; 1780 and died circa: 1880. Zachariah's father was Zachariah, Sr. Born 1745. Died 15 Mar ??? Zachariah, Sr.'s father was Richard Wells, Sr. He was born either the 13 or 15 Mar 1721 or 22. He died in Big Stone Gap, Va, but I don't know what year. He was known as "Graybeard". He had 14 kids! Richard, Sr.'s father was James Wells, Jr. Born 1676 and died 1 JUL 1771. And now we are back to James, Sr. from England. My father was Nelson Hagan Wells, born 13 AUG 1912 in Big Stone Gap, VA. Died 13 Dec 1982 in Dayton, OH. My grandfather was Patrick Hagan Wells, born 28 APR 1886 in Big Stone Gap, VA. died 10 MAY 1966 in Big Stone. My great-grandfather was Harve (Harvey) Nelson Wells, born 15 Mar 1853 in Wise County, VA and died 21 APR 1921 in Lee County, VA. Harve(y)'s father was Johnson Wells, born either 1823 or 24 in Wise or Lee County, VA He died in 1868. My e-mail address is donnaboling1947@gmail.com. Please let me know if any of this has been helpful. And, if you find out anything about the David Wells incident, I would LOVE to have that info.
