I have also found a John Newnan & a John Nunan in Clark Co, IN in 1840. There is also a John Newnam of Davidson Co., TN involved in early Lincoln Co., TN land records. I find it interesting that the name Newnam is associated with two Wells families, as well as appearing to have a similar migration pattern as the DE Wells.
