These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by other organizations. ************************************************************************ Last Will and Testament of RICHARD WELLS of Harford County dated 3 October 1782 In the Name of God Amen, I Richard Wells Seenr, of Harford County and State of Maryland being somewhat infirm in the Body but of Sound Disposing mind and Memory and considering the certainty of Death and the uncertainty of time, and being desirous to Settle my worldly affairs and thereby the better prepared to leave this world when it Shall please God to call me hence do therefore make and Publish this my last will and Testament in manner & form following that is to say First and Principally I commit my Soul into the hands of Almighty God and my Body to the Earth to be Decently Buried at the discretion of my Executors hereafter mentioned and after my Lawful Debts and funeral charges are paid I desire and Bequeath as follows ------------------------------------ Item I give and Bequeath unto Richard Wells my eldest Son one Hundred and fifty acres of my Land at the North End of my whole Tract where he now lives to be laid of by a straight line across the Same to him the Said Richard Wells his heirs Executors and administrators of assigns for Ever and no more. ----------------------------------------------- Item I give and Bequeath unto William Wells my youngest Son my Negro man named Isaac and likewise the remainder and remainders of all my Land that I now possess after my above Said Son Richard Wells has his one hundred and fifty acres laid off as above said. Said Land being part of a Tract or Parcel of Land known by the name of Arabia Patra to him, his heirs Executors and administrators or assigns for Ever.------------------- Item I give unto my Daughter, Cassandra Ward a Negro girl named Cate during her natural life and after her Death to her Son Richard Ward. ------------------------------------ Item I give unto my Daughter, Susanna Downing a Negro girl named Pat during her natural life and after her death to her Son Richard Downing. -------------------------------- Item I give unto my Daughter, Frances Henly my Negro man named Londa. ------------- Item, I give and Bequeath unto my Daughter Elizabeth Rienshaw my best feather Bed and Furniture. ----------------------------------------------------------------- And Lastly my will and Pleasure is that all the remainder and remainders of my Personal Estate be Equally divided between my following children, William Wells, Cassandra Ward, Susanna Downing, Frances Henly and Elizabeth Rienshaw, and I do hereby appoint my Son William Wells and Edward Ward the Sole Executors of this my last will and Testament and I do hereby utterly disallow revoke and disannul all and Every other, former Testament Wills Legacies Bequests and Executors by me in any ways before named willed and Bequeathed ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and Testament. The only information I have on this Richard Wells is he was born Cir 1688 and his wife's name was Elizabeth. This comes from a couple of descendents of the family (not Wells). There is also a Will written by his son two years later. Richard Wells - of the county of Harford, State of Maryland Harford County, Maryland Will Book AJR/191 20 January 1784 To wife Jane Wells, my Negro girl Jane, also the one third part of my Real and Personal Estate To my son Richard Wells the one half part of my Real Estate to be divided by indiferent persons and then the said Richard Wells to take his first choice, also my Negroe man Jack. To my son Samuel Wells all the residue of my Real Estate To my daughter Cassandra Hawkins, my Negro girl Rachael To my daughter Drussilla Wells my Negroe girl Cate. To my daughter Mary Wells my Negro girl Hannah also my Negroe boy Bobb (Note: not my spelling here - Orin) All the Rest, Residue and Remainder of my Estate of every nature and kind whatsoever that is not herein otherwise disposed of that is to say to Cassandra Hawkins, Luranah Hawkins, Elizabeth Barnes, Susannah Crigg, Richard Wells, Drusilla Wells, Samuel Wells and Mary Wells my children, share and share alike.
