    2. Orin how about someone like me who has been tested through another company. Will they accept ours for their project or would we have to be retested through theirs? Jackie Perkins-Horton

    3. The Molecular Genealogy Project is more of a research project than a genealogy project. While genealogies are connected to the samples (no living individuals) it is not designed to be proving genealogies. So it has no connection to a surname or any other type of DNA project. Yes, they will accept the samples from ANYONE who has sufficient genealogy. You do not receive the results and the ONLY way you can find your DNA results is if you already know enough of the marker values to fish it out as I have done for all of our phase 1 participants who are in the database currently. The dna samples used in the Molecular Genealogy Project must be collected by them. They can not use results done elsewhere. The samples are separated from the contributor so there is no connection. Even if you find a DNA sample, you can not tell who it belongs to unless you can figure it out from the genealogy and even then you can't find them unless you do a LOT of research and put in the effort. In most cases you will not succeed. So it is very secure. For everyone's information, they are no longer using blood samples. They have a mouthwash collection system that I think they are the only ones using today. This collects more DNA material than the swabs used by the other labs and is superior to blood. So, yes, you will have to be re-tested. But it is pretty simple and, unless you have to pay for the return postage which I don't know, it will not cost you anything.
