I am trying to put this together so I can track down some descendents. That should answer your problem of whether they were related. This trail seems to track through South Carolina to Florida - but I have a hunch the part of Florida may actually have been in what is now Louisiana. Governor James Madison Wells of Louisiana was a member of this family. They seem to have had a number of plantations prior to the Civil war. I am thinking they probably lost a lot as a consequence of the war. Also following the war a LOT of freed slaves suddenly appear with the last name Wells. Probably most just adopted the plantation owner's last name. It would be interesting to find some descendents of these families and check them. There is also some bad genealogy on the early members of this family. No surprise there. Someone appears to have looked for Samuel Levi Wells born in the 1730s and discovered Levi Wells b: 19 Oct 1735 in Colchester, New London County, Connecticut and grabbed him as their guy linking him back to Thomas Wells b: Cir 1630 and Frances Albright (aka family W001). WRONG! Levi's wife was Jerusha Clark and their are fully accounted for. If there is anyone on this list connected to this family who knows of a male Wells we can test, please speak up!
