Charity3 Carrington. Last name also given as Carrentine. She was born in 1730. She lived in 1750 at Leesburg, Louden Co., VA. She married Joseph Wells, son of Joseph Wells and Margaret Swanson, on 23 May 1750 at Fairfax MM, Leesburg, Louden Co., VA. She died on 26 Feb 1803 at Cane Creek, Orange Co., NC, Another source gives her death date as 1818. She was buried at Cane Creek Burial Ground, Orange Co., NC. [ M ]. --- 4th Generation --- 8. Joseph4 Wells. Joseph's birthday is often given as 30 Sep 1697, on which date a son was born to Thomas Wells of Prince Georges Parish. The birth of Joseph was listed in the Queen Anne Parish Records there, as was his christening in October. There is, as yet, no documentation that this child and are Joseph are one and the same person. DNA testing has found no genetic link between Thomas and the descendants of Joseph's probable son. The parish records also record the birth of a twin sister, Sarah. The register of the Protestant Episcopal Church of Queen Anne Parish church in Prince Georges County Maryland shows Thomas and Frances Wells' children and includes Joseph, born 30 September 1697. Thomas Wells wrote his will 25 September 1718 in Prince George county, MD. (Lib.14-Folio 724). His heirs included wife Frances and sons including JOSEPH. In addition, Thomas Wells bought land in Prince George County, MD in 1695 that adjoined "Swansons Lott" owned by Francis Swanson, considered to be the father of Margaret Swanson. It seems appropriate that Joseph Wells might marry a neighbor girl, Margaret Swanson. This suggests that Thomas and Frances were parents of Joseph, Sr., but DNA tests failed to confirm this. The DNA of known descendants of Thomas does not match known descendants of Joseph Sr.'s grandsons (children of Joseph, Jr..). He married Rachel (--?--) circa 1719. Joseph probably married Rachel ? circa 1719. This is a conclusion based upon the birth and batismal records of Rachel, a probably daughter, in the 12 Jul 1721 records of the All Hallow's Church in Anne Arundel County Maryland. This record gives her parents as Joseph and his wife, Rachel. The book, "Pioneers of Old Monocacy" states that Joseph and his wife Margaret came from Chester Co. PA and settled on Boyling Springs, "a 40 acre tract which was surveyed on 12 June 1743, and was located on Tuscorrah Creek near the mouth of the Monquescy. In November of that year he was made constable of the Monocacy Hundred. Joseph and Margaret became interested in the Quaker faith and began attending meetings in the Fairfax County (now Loudon) Virginia, across the Potomac River from Frederick County. Joseph was received as a member into the Quaker church on 29 Feb, 1745 or 46 and his wife was granted membership into Fairfax MM on 29 Nov of 1745. On 25 June of 1750, Joseph and Margaret moved from Maryland to North Carolina, as shown by his certificate of removal from the Monocacy MM, to the Carver's Creek MM, in Bladen County North Carolina. They are listed as charter members of the Cane Creek Monthly Meeting in Orange County, North Carolina on 7 October of 1751. Joseph, Sr. owned land in Orange County, North Caqrolina, described as 269 acres, which he gave to his son Joseph on June 13, 1752. Another 137.5 acres were sold to John Marshall in Septermber of that year. Joseph's death date is given variously as about 1758, and elsewhere as 1755. The place is also in question, given by some researchers as Orange County, but also as Calvert, Maryland. He married Mary Underwood, daughter of Alexander Underwood and Jane Harry, on 27 May 1758 at New Garden MM, Surrey Co., NC. A number of researcher show this man as writing a will ini Orange Co. NC on 20 Jul 1804, and credit him with living to age 106. I believe this to be unlikely, and that the will is that of his son, Joseph, Jr. 2:6442 is the bibliography and list of researchers who have placed Wells information on the web. Many researchers list a number of possible children for Joseph and Margaret. They are: Levi, 2:2350: b. 1722 in MD. Her married name was Wells. She was born in 1705 at Prince George Co., Md. On the 1860 census, his name appears to be Zachariah, although it is very hard to read. She married Joseph Wells, son of Frances (--?--), on 11 Apr 1721 at All Hallows Parish, Davidsonville, Anne Arundel Co., MD. In 1752 Margaret stops appearing in Quaker records that mention husband Joseph and some of her children. This suggests that she died before that time.
