    3. Peggy, This history is flawed. There was no 16th Ohio Volunteer Cavalry. A Charles Wells served in the 1st Ohio Volunteer Cavalry. They were never near Gettysburg spending the entire war in the south. There was also a Charles Wells in the 3d Ohio Volunteer Cavalry but I was not able to develop a web site with any information on that Regiment. I did locate a history of the unit for sale on eBay No Ohio Cavalry unit was at Gettysburg. If, in fact, he served in the Civil War there may be a pension file for him because he left a wife and child. Good Luck, Jim Owens

    2. Jim, at times I've wondered if the entire biography is total fiction since confirming the details has been near impossible. However, just recently I did find Michael Moore, the man he was apprenticed to, on census records and so I'm encouraged to keep searching. And I certainly do appreciate your help. I did discover that there was no 16th Ohio Vol. Cavalry. Nor did the National Archives find a service record on him or pension file for his wife, Sarah. At the following site there is a 6th Ohio Cavalry mentioned which apparently fought at Gettysburg. I haven't found a roster yet, but there is no Charles WELLS with that company at the Soldiers and Sailors site. I'll request a service record search from the archive anyway; also a pension record using the name of his second wife, Lizzie. http://6th-ohio-cavalry.org/History/History.html Peggy _____ James Owens wrote: > Peggy, > > This history is flawed. 3. Peggy, One last shot. A number of individuals enlisted under false names. Some of these are listed under their real names if there was a pension application. I am currently working on an archaeological project where a Pennsylvania unit was for a short time. Charles D. Fuller turned out to be Elvira Ibecker and was discharged. Jim O.
