Crayton, a former Junction City resident, died at her daughter's home in Sacramento, Calif., on Sept. 27, 2003. She was 85. She was born Nov. 28, 1917, in Louisville, Ky., to Julius and Alma Wells Mansfield. She attended Louisville schools and graduated from Saint Anthony Hospital School of Nursing in 1938. She worked as a registered nurse in Louisville and was a former TWA hostess. Later, she was a homemaker and Army wife. She married Robert Cummings in 1941, and they later divorced. She married Robert Crayton in 1951. She traveled extensively, living in both Egypt and Germany. She came to Fort Riley with her husband in 1969. They settled in Junction City after his retirement in 1972. He preceded his wife in death in 1983. She lived in Junction City until eight years ago, when she moved to Sacramento to live with her daughter. She was an active member of St. Xavier's Catholic Church. She also belonged to the Junction City Armed Services YMCA, the Little Theater, Garden Club and Clipped Wings, a group of retired TWA flight attendants. She had a Life Master rating in duplicate bridge and also enjoyed playing golf and mahjong. She is survived by one son, Robert Cummngs, of Delano, Calif.; three daughters, Diane Zuch of Kansas City, Kan., Patricia Van Woerkom of Sacramento, and Cathy Doane of Manhattan; and three grandchildren. A memorial Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the St. Xavier's Catholic Church, with Father Brungardt as celebrant. She was cremated. She will be inurned in Fort Riley Cemetery. Memorials have been established for the Armed Services YMCA in Junction City or the U.C. Davis Care Service in Sacramento, Calif.
