(Wells) Hannon was born Oct. 12, 1937, the youngest of four children born to Austin G. and Willie Inez (Solomon) Wells in Junction City. She graduated from Junction City High School and received nurse's training and graduated from Marymount College in Salina. Hannon moved to Kansas City, Mo., where as a registered nurse she cared for patients at St. Joseph's Hospital for several years. She earned the distinction of becoming the first Black Industrial Nurse when she was hired by Armco Steel. She cared for injured and ill steel workers for 26 years until she retired in 1988. After retirement she continued to care for patients through Stay Well Home Health Care Services. She served on the Jackson County Board of Services. She served on the Jackson County Board of Services for the developmentally Disabled for more than 10 years and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the 9th and 10th (Horse) Cavalry Association. She married Kenneth L. Hannon on Dec. 15, 1962. They had one daughter, Stella Renee Hannon Norman (Dominique). In addition to her husband and daughter, Hannon is survived by one granddaughter, Kylie Inez Linda Norman; and sister and brothers, Consuelo Curley, Richard Wells and Raymond Wells. Services will be Wednesday at Watkins Brothers Memorial Chapel, Kansas City, Mo. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Kansas City, Mo. Feb. 17, 2004 - Daily Union
