    3. I have just had a small chink in my brick wall. Can you help me knock out a brick? My brick wall was George Wells b. 1843 in Rhode Island. Yesterday,I was at the archives and discovered his mother's name was Hattie. No father's name yet. No birth record yet. Does anyone have a Hattie Wells , mother of George? Any help or suggestions would be appreicated. Thanks --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Get on board. You're invited to try the new Yahoo! Mail.

    3. Jane, This may not be that much help. In the 1850 census there are ONLY 3 George Wells born in Rhode Island cir 1843. Two of them can probably be removed because their mothers could not be construed to be named or nicknamed Hattie without great effort. One of them was George C. (Clarke) Wells b: 22 Jan 1844 Ashaway, Rhode Island son of Peter Clarke Wells and Eliza Stillman. He is still shown with his parents and siblings in 1860 in Hopkinton. He married Emma L. Brown according to one genealogy. The next is a George Wells b: Cir 1844 shown in Cranston, Providence Co., Rhode Island in 1850 with parents John Wells and Rhoda Wells. In 1860 the father is missing. George his siblings Thomas b: Cir 1843, John 22, Hannah 7, Mary E and William 2 are living with mother Rhoda. In 1850 the parents are shown born in England. In 1860 Rhoda is shown born in Ireland. The most likely is George H. Wells living in Each Greenwich, Kent Co., Rhode Island in 1850 with what appears to be his grandparents?. John Wells 57 b: RI and Hannah Wells 65 b: RI. Hannah is likely too old to have been his mother. There is a sister Emmy also listed as 7. Apparently twins. John and Hannah are still living in 1860 but Emma/Emmy is missing, possibly married. The family is living next to the family of a Jacob Wait which might be a clue to the Wells family they are connected to. This is assuming that 1843 was the actual birth year of George. There were also a couple of more George Wells born in Rhode island Cir 1846 and 1848. I haven't found them in later census records though. In 1880 George C. Wells is living in Meacham, Marion Co., IL with wife Emma. Apparently he was there prior to 1870 as he is shown there in the 1870 census. George H. Wells is living in West Greenwich, Kent Co., RI. The just plain George is living with his 5 siblings in Cranston but he seems to have gone missing in 1880. He is listed as age 24 implying a birth year of 1846?. So which, if any of these, is yours?
