It is warmly inscribed to him by G. A. Smith. The pages for births, deaths & marriages are filled out and contain such names as: Leavens, Beers, Strang later changed to Strange, Wells, and more. The records go back to the early 1800s. Also is laid in an old paper with more family history listed from the Wells branch: going back to the late 1700 there is listed 12 births and who each person married. This is fragile & has tape repairs. Also laid in is a hand-written composition by David Hodgetts in 1857 at Georgetown Institute in Connecticut. The book came from a Connecticut estate and the people included in the genealogy seem to be from New England, Long Island and New Jersey (I have no connection to this Bible, but am posting in hopes that someone from the family will see it in time to take a look at it. It is listed as Item number: 6576396191 and the starting bid is a nominal $9.99)
From what I see on the image is that it begins with a Jeremiah Wells. I do not see any place names. It does appear the WELLS lineage as wells and the rest in the Hodgetts bible were all written at the same time ... the same handwriting, color of ink, etc. I did some research on Charles Hodgetts and there is one in the mid 1800s who came to Connecticut from Dudley, Warwickshire, England .. but, who knows if that is the correct guy ... :o)?? -----Original Message----- From: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com [mailto:gc-gateway@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of rep1@MAIL.EMCS.NET Sent: Friday, November 11, 2005 8:07 PM To: WELLS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [WELLS-L] Family Bible on eBay 11/11/05 claiming to contain WELLS Family information back to Late 1700's This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list.
