Maybe I'm trying to make this harder than it is. Let me clarify by saying I'm talking about the tree in Ancestry.com. It grows by starting with myself and then adding my parents. I'm in the process of starting all over (because of the duplications!) from a tree I began which now has about 1400 individuals in it! My new tree now has about 189 names, but I've been watching the list as I've entered the data and the duplications didn't start until I got to my two Wells brothers, Jasper Mashburn & Erastus Posey Wells (my great-grandfathers). So...should I have begun with just one of my parents, adding all the data when I got to my two great-grandfathers as brothers on let's say my father's side. Then when I added my mother's side and I got to her grandfather, would I pull him from the tree, rather than typing it in myself? Does Ancestry let you do that? I haven't had any problems in my FamilyTreeMaker software with the duplications, and it does have the capability to merge families . I appreciate your time and willingness to help me in this. On Ancestry, when you want to add a spouse that's already in the tree, go to the Profile page of the person you're adding a spouse to, get on the Relationship Page and click on Add a Spouse. You'll be given the option to Add Someone Already in Your Tree. Click on that and everything will automatically be linked. (I'm going from memory here, but the wording is similar to what I posted.) I am still working on merging duplicate individuals. In fact, that is one of the reasons I am writing now. I have a problem and need your help. I have been pulling my hair out over Joshua Wells, suppos edly the son of Thomas Wells and Phoebe Greene of Rhode Island. I have Joshua with birth dates ranging from 1733 to 1744 in Rhode Island and death dates from 1831 to 1834 in Madison Co., NY. The part that gets VERY CONFUSING is that he supposedly have three sons: Gardiner b: 1770, Joshua Jr b: 1771 and Robert b: 1781 (all who migrated to Madison Co. NY and are listed in the Madison Co. NY History .. especially in the town of Nelson.) and I have 5 different wives of Joshua who claim to be the mother of these three boys: Amey, Dorothy, Deborah Palmer, Sylvia Clarke, Sylvia Bentley and an Elizabeth P. I spent several hours trying to find ANYTHING that would tell me which was the mother. I am sure what has happened is that I have several Joshua's that have been assigned one of two dates for birth and death . and I don't know where the wife's names come from. No, there is no sources for this. Unless I can get this cleared up with your help, my only option is to remove all of them, put them all as separate marriages into W999 (unknown DNA family) and remove the parents of the three sons. If anyone has proof of what is correct, please send me either the URL (please no lineages from other people) to the source or email me the image of the source. If I don't hear anything by next Monday, I am going to separate them out. Thanks . and it WILL get done eventually. I did get bogged down as I started up my own custom embroidery business so promoting it has taken some time . just need to get some orders in. :o) I work on merging duplicates while the machines are running. Thank you so much for letting me know they did exist on a 1920 Census. Their son Robert was my grandfather. I can't find anything about his sister Beverly. She was born after 1910 and died before 1920. She was 4 when she got an oil lamp for Christmas. She spilled some of the oil on herself and then she knocked the lamp off the night table. She was set on fire. She died in the hospital. I'm wondering if she may have been their first child. Thank you for responding to my post. I get frustrated sometimes when I have information but it's not complete. Thanks again. Crystal Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
