Anyone have any clue who this Master Wells might be? This following bit was sent to me quite a long time ago by Jack T. Wells but got put into some records that I just uncovered. The reference is out of "The Complete Book of Emmigrants" by Peter Wilson Coldham, Genealogical Publish Co. pub 1990 The letter reveals that not all ships voyages met with tragic trips. One does have to wonder why people as old as described in this letter would set out on a voyage to a land where the conditions surely were going to be harsh. The location Charles Town is probably Charlestown, MA 1633 Undated. Copy letter Master Wells in New England to his people at Tarling, Essex, giving an account of his voyage. My wife and children went ill into the ship but were better at sea than on land and I had not one ounce of sea sickness. In the ship there were near 80 passengers, some very aged, and 12 persons able to make well nigh 1000 years, some very young and hanging on the breast of some women big with child and one delivered of a lusty child within 40 hours after she landed and she and the child well. another woman in the ship of 60 years who had consumption of the lungs for 7 years came forth fully cured. And not only safe in our ship but all in the ships that came this Spring out of England laden with passengers, cattle and goods, and not a man or child died by the way nor since that came to shore. I know no other place on the whole globe of the earth where I would rather be than here. At last I rested with Mr. Masell at Charles Town where I now am with my family. (BL?
