Note: From The American Genealogist Vol. 28:230: "John Welles first appears in Stratford, Connecticut. There he married Sarah Curtis. Two children were recorded to "John Welles" in Stratford, the name of their mother not being stated: Sarah and Mary. The birth of the next child, Abigail, missed recording. The family moved after the deed of 1662 to Hatfield, Massachusetts, and the births of six younger children are given in Judd's "History of Hadley," Appendix, p. 150. John Welles is there stated to have died on 18 October 1692 and his widow Sarah, in about 1743. The first five children were daughters and the first son was John, born on 15 September 1670. This source names only the 3 daughters and one son, which leaves 5 children unnamed." (maybe one unnamed daughter was Elizabeth) Also have this: John WELLS chr 20 Feb 1635/6 All Saints parish, Evesham, Worcester County, England. Lived in Sratford, CT and Hatfield, MA. Died 18 Oct 1692 in Hatfield, Hampshire County, MA. This is the line of (I'll leave this current info out for privacy reasons). Her connection is John and Sarah’s son John who married Rachel Marsh. They lived in Hatfield, Hampshire Co., MA. m. Sarah CURTIS on 1 Feb. 1657/58 in Stratford, Fairfield County, CT, daughter of William and Hannah CURTIS. Sarah was tomahawked by the Indians in Hatfield on 19 Sept 1677. One daughter was wounded and another was killed at age 2 in the Hatfield Massacre. Sarah was born 10 Oct 1642 in Stratford, Fairfield Co., CT. So we have discrepancies on Sarah's death date. I wonder if the daughter Sarah was the one who died in 1743, rather than the mother. Margie
