I grew up listening to Gramma Laura Josephine Wells-Olson tell of my Indian Ancestry. I was always a hit in school when the American West was the topic. I had/have scads of pics from Wounded Knee, some of which Ive never seen in books. I have a handwritten account of the death of Sitting Bull, written by Aaron's son Joe-who I think was Gramma's Great Uncle. I have a very detailed family history that I got from Gramma, as I am sort of the "keeper of memories" for our family. Also, Philip wrote "Ninety Six Years Among The Indians", which was published in ... some North Dakota History books.. I will have to go look. Gramma's line will run out with the passing of my mom. (there are four of us, but the Indian land reverts at moms death, we are too diluted) Laura Josephine's sisters are all passed, as are their offspring. Six years ago, or so, the Tribe paid mom for the mineral rights to what was left of the Wel! ls Pine Ridge land..I think it came to about $40 all told. Much of the land had been "fragmented" into teensy parcels. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
