I have not replied because I am not sure this is the Charlotte Wells I have been looking for. After looking over the messages and responses from others, it is still possible this is the Charlotte I am seeking. I do not have a membership to Ancestry, so I could not view the image of the census that you posted. Can you give me a town and/or page number so I can see if I can find it on 'Heritage Quest'? I have a John Wells that died in 1845. His children say he was born in either MD, or SC. His wife's name is Nancy (unknown). Nancy was living with several children in 1860s. They are not her children, or if they are, they are all illigitimate. I think they belonged to one of her daughters or a son. Anyway, in her probate of 1870s, she mentioned a Charlotte Wells several times. No hint who Charlotte is, or where she lives. But there is no Charlotte Wells anywhere to be found in that area of S.Carolina. I believe Nancy's probate was in Chester or Fairfield County in S.Carolina. John & Nancy could have had a son named James, or William because both names are carried throughout many of the children's lines. I know that doesn't mean much, since it is such a common name. But, I have hunted for Charlotte Wells for years. If James died in 1860, he would not have been mentioned in the probate, but if the widow was still alive, she would have been. So, if you don't mind, could you let me know the page number and town of the census, so I can study that to see if there might be a connection. Thanks so much, Kathy Wells.
