I recognize several of the posters in this thread from researching over the years. Having had a series of massive computer crashes over the years, I've lost all my email correspondence, but I know that I've communicated with at least Linda and Leslie in the past. Just the other day, I found Charlotte, still alive in 1885 and living with her daughter Sarah Jane (Wells) and her second husband Anson Skeels, in Republic, Lincoln, Kansas. They are listed in the state census, now posted online here at ancestry. The image can be viewed here: http://search.ancestry.com/iexec?htx=View&r=an&dbid=1088&iid=ks1885_114-0631&fn=Charlotte&ln=Wells&st=r&ssrc=&pid=876604 She's 80 years old, and shockingly far from Belmont County Ohio, where she was living in 1880. I'm now thinking she died out there with daughter Sarah, and was buried back home in Ohio. I wrote to the Kansas State Historical Society, and they stunned and disappointed me by responding with a death date from somebody's family tree on ancestry.com. I'd hoped for something more... er... local. I wonder whether there were any papers publishing there in 1887. Speaking of 1887 -- that comes from somebody's family tree online. There are now hard dates for Charlotte's birth and death, but I can't figure out how they're sourced. Can anybody figure this out? http://trees.ancestry.com/owt/editperson.aspx?pid=115782270&st=1 They did tell me her daughter Sarah Jane Skeels died 8 Jan 1912. Since KS began keeping vitals in July 1911, there's a chance that Sarah's death record will contain her mother's maiden name. Hard to know. I haven't sent for it, been working recently on a different branch of the family altogether. Hope you've all been well. -Daryl Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
