Apparently DE didn't register birth records during the time when my grandfather and his younger brother were born there. I did find a researcher in NJ who is going to the archives for me this week. She's already looked for a marriage record for Mary and Charles but couldn't find one. I've given her a few possible connections (Lippincott/Wells, Lippincott/Smith) I've found in the online database for marriages, and she'll get me the records for those to check out. I also found the birth date of one of the sons born in NJ and a possible birth date for the other, so she's looking for birth records for them. She's also getting me the marriage record for my grandfather's brother so I can see which name he has listed as his father. I'll look into finding a historical society in Sussex Co., DE to see if births were registered on a local level 1886-1890. I hadn't thought about that. Thanks for the suggestion.
