Another list provided this URL to search for surnames who registered for military in Canada. At looking at the 379 WELLS, I found several born in Scotland, England and USA . and either living in Canada or USA . as far away as Waco, TX. For those of you that have Canadian, Scottish or English born WELLS, you might check this out. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: silverfox3280 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.wells/5542/mb.ashx Message Board Post: "William Wells of Southold and his Descendants", 1878, by Charles Wells Hayes, lists 7 children of William Wells on page 33, and perhaps an eighth child, named Anne, wife of John Goldsmith. None of the eight are named Deborah. There is no documentation shown on that page supporting the parents of any of the children. A real estate deed is later found that states Mary Mapes, the widow of William Wells, was transferring some land to her daughter Anne Goldsmyth, wife of John Goldsmythe, confirming that relationship - giving eight known children. "New England Marriages Prior to 1700" by Clarence Almon Torrey, shows the wife of Gershom Terry to be Deborah Wells, 1662-1729. The age indicates this Deborah is of the second generation and a daughter of William Wells of Southold (unless she perhaps comes from a different part of New England than Suffolk County, NY) In recent years, the sources of Torrey have been published, as well as Wells DNA procedures, but this researcher has not had privy to them to support / confirm / disprove whether Deborah, the wife of Gershom Terry was a daughter of William Wells. Can anyone offer documentation regarding the identity of Deborah, wife of Gershom Terry? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
