I am afraid I have very little to contribute to you. I believe that Amasa Wells second wife was my widowed 4th great Grandmother Mrs. Tamer Joyce. Still in search for her maiden name. Her daughter my 3rd Great Grandmother Sally Maroxa Joyce married Harmon Warner. There was a period of time when some of what I believe are orphan Wells children living with some of the Taylor families. With Tamer Wells age at 67 and the children Chester Wells age 14 and Charles Wells age 11. I believe the children may be grand children of Amasa Wells and Sarah Lewis. The other connection I hope you might shed some light on is Benjamin Taylor. Wonder if he might be a brother of your Taylor 1. 1. [WELLS] Genetree Special
    2. Orin Wells
    3. If any of you have been holding back on the DNA testing waiting for a deal too good to pass up, you have one day to jump on the genetree special. $79 for the 46 marker Y-Chromosome test until midnight tomorrow. The apparently opened it up on the 22nd. They test the same markers we have been using through Ancestry and SMGF essentially since our project started in 2000. The downside is their turnaround time is wretched. 6 to 12 weeks. If you can wait it would at least give you a tidy savings. Ancestry is still $179 less our 20% discount for the Wells project. Contact me for the code to use. You can also get tested at Family Tree DNA for $119 until the end of the year. Their test has a few different markers, but generally we can tell when they "match" an existing Wells family.

    3. Thanks very much ... do you have anything (children) on Barton and Hannah who were in Washington, Monroe and Noble Counties, Ohio ... 1781 - 1843? Don't know Hannah's last name she d: 1835. They are buried in Hessen Cemetery that was in Monroe Co. up until about 1852 when it was turned into Noble Co. I figured if anyone had any real proof, it would be you. Seeing the name WHITING in the Barker information below hit a memory cell ... I have in my line Clarissa Marie WELLS b: c 1813 who married 1) Nathan WHITING .. he died in 1830 right after they arrived in Erie Co., OH from either NY or VT. She then married Erastus Ivory (a stone mason) in Norwalk, Huron Co., OH where they lived and died. I would like more information on Nathan Whiting ... I have been unable to find a connection for him even there are several Nathan Whiting in New England. 1. [WELLS] The Caleb Wells (->Phillip->Thomas Jefferson) Problem
    2. Chad Thompson
    3. To all: I've been attempting some internet searching on the Wells family - after discovering a part of my wife's family history Ancestry.com made this seem 'easy'... but it turns out that none of this really is that easy. I've been searching through the mailing list archives as well, but my problem is apparently one that has been a matter of some debate. I'm writing to see if any 'progress' has been made on the debate or if there is some real documentation behind the published resources. My wife's family contains a Wells connection from her grandmother Irene (Wells) Gardiner and her great-grandfather Fred Albert Wells. (The family is/was largely from the Milo, IA area.) From what we know 'firmly', Fred Albert is the son of Thomas Jefferson Wells, a Civil War veteran (with service in the 5th Wisconsin Battalion, TJ Wells was also a member of the Grand Army of the Republic in the Milo, IA post according to records I have found) This family tree appears in the "Merged DNA" website/family tree under the W010 family branch. (Here's the link I found: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hillmer/DNA/ui21.htm#a810) According to this tree, TJ Wells is the son of Phillip Wells and Nancy Tanner; Phillip is in turn the son of Caleb Wells and Rosanna Peterson, Caleb is in turn the son of Lt. James Wells and Freelove Aylesworth. Some Ancestry.com members have also agreed with this line, others have not. There is a problem on relying on Ancestry.com for information: there are many claims, but often not much in the way of documented evidence. Searching through the list archives here, it seems that there has been some debate on the ancestry of the Phillip->Caleb->James line. In some of the posts I've found here there was a bit of a debate about the ancestry (or even identity) of the "Caleb" that was both the son of Lt. James as well as the father of Phillip. Does anyone have some insight beyond what I've found online, or some proof of the Phillip->Caleb->James ancestry? Thank you in advance for any insight anyone can provide. -- Chad Thompson chad.o.thompson@gmail.com

    3. Randall smacks of being in my own branch of this family. And last year I had an exchange with someone who, I think, was a descendant of a Croydon Wells but I didn't recognize it. I will have to do some searching to find that exchange. It was in regard to something other than family history. 3.     Researching James Wells, born 16 Jun 1793, KY. Died 8 Dec 1881, Coles Co, IL. He was married twice; (1) Nancy Kincade, 4 Sep 1824, Bracken Co, KY, and (2) Elizabeth Fuller, 21 Oct 1834, Coles Co, IL. Elizabeth may have been a widow.     James had six children; Thomas, George, Sarah “Sally Ann”, and Amanda by Nancy. He had Francis Marion and Robert by Elizabeth. James, both of his wives, and his sons Thomas, Francis and Robert, are buried in the Otterbein Cemetery, Coles County, Illinois.     I am trying to connect this family to my Bourbon Co, KY, Wells who also migrated to Coles Co, IL. Both families seem to have a connection to the Eli Wiley family. Can anyone help?
