I know there may be a relation of the person who ran the business on the list who can help you, but otherwise, a library in the area may have city directories to find the span of existence for the business and determine the proprietor. They may even have other info. Does anyone know anything about a furniture store that used to be or maybe is still located in Zanesville, Ohio called Wells Furniture (and Carpet)? Someone refinishing a bookcase that I would guess may have been sold around the turn of the century (20th) found on the back a sticker indicating it had been sold by the Wells' Furniture and Carpet Company in Zanesville, Ohio. On the sticker it says "BIG STORE" "WE SELL FOR LESS" I am wondering who founded that store, when it operated and when it went out of business or was sold and to whom. I can't find anything on it.
Is there a Dorothy Wells White online?? She was researching Theodore Wells b: 1812 RI, son of John Wells b: RI, and brother of John Russell Wells b: 1817. They relocated from RI to Sandy Hill, Washington Co., NY then went onto Lake Co., Illinois (John Russell Wells was a merchant there . married Hepsa Ann Flint in 1852. The query I found for Dorothy was 1999 . :o) and the email does not work. Bonita \\\|/// \\ ~ ~ // ( @ @ ) ----oOOo-(_)-oOOo---- Just Looking for clues ... Good advice ... I NEVER click on a URL unless I feel confident of the site .... but even then I put my cursor on the URL as sometimes if it is scam, the actual URL that it will go to is not what is listed as the URL. You also need to be very careful as these scammers will put different letters or numbers along with a known site. So, the best thing to do is to just don't click on the URL from the message but if it says to go to rootsweb.com ... open up your browser and put in the address you know is correct. This will avoid scams and going to scammer website that are just trying to get your login/password or worse yet, put a virus on your computer. In fact, be careful of one that tells you to open an attachment as it could have a program embedded in the attachment. Last night a post was made "by the email account" of William Wells containing only a link. I suggest you NOT click on that link. I don't know where it would take you but it probably is infected with something. His AOL Email address appears to have been compromised. He has been advised.

Hi! I am new to this list. Can anyone help me with this Wells family? John Wells born 1660 Reading, Berkshire, England. Died 1736 in Lower Dublin Twp. Philadelphia County PA, wife Olive Hunt. They were married in a Quaker ceremony on 20/28th(sic) day of seventh month called September 1681, Newbury and Oare MM Berkshire, England (Have copy of that record.) In 1690 he purchased 100 acres from John Gordon, agent for William Penn, Lower Dublin township, Philadelphia, PA. 2nd son Samuel Wells born **Nov. 11, 1687, signed will 1771 and probated 1778 mentions oldest son John not living when will written. Possible wife of Samuel is Julian Taylor b ca 1690 married 1712. John's sons named in will. ** I find the birth of a Samuel Wells to John and Olive Wells 10th day of the 6th month in the year 1682 (Have copy of that Berkshire Quaker English document) Samuel's son John whose wife is believed to be Esther Bostick John's oldest son Reuben Wells. Reuben was taxed 1769-1770 as having no property and living with grandfather Samuel Wells. In 1779-1780 Reuben was taxed in the City of Philadelphia, Southwark Ward. He may have served in the American Revolution, but I do not find any Reuben Wells from Philadelphia area. Believed he was the father of Jane Wells but cannot document. My husband's mother is related to this Wells family. In fact I just took a photo of Zachariah's and Martha's gravestone earlier this week. There are several other Wells in that cemetery that I am trying to piece in to the family tree. My mother-in-law is a descendent of John Barker Wells who is an older half brother to Zachariah Wells. The gravestones I photographed are from the Gray Friends Church, Hamilton County, Indiana. They moved back and forth from Calloway County in 1850 to Vicksburg, MS in 1860. It was handed down that in the 1870's they moved back to Kentucky. James Madison Wells' son Vines Monroe Clifton Wells (my great grandfather) was born 1853 in Mayfield, Kentucky. He was an attorney & went to school in Lebanon, Tennesee. It was handed down that his (M.C. Wells) great-grandfather was Chief Justice of Kentucky back in 1800;s but I have found no Wells as such through online searching. I'm thinking this William Wells listed with him in 1850 Census must be his brother and he was 16 at the time and it was only them two listed on that household. I have found J. M. Wells' grave at Cedar Hills Cemetery in Vicksburg, MS. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: Ed_Wells Surnames: Wells, Lindsey Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.wells/5559.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am a Wells from Calloway County who has done a lot of research on the Wells families of Calloway. Unfortunately, I can't answer your question. There were at least four unrelated Wells families. The two largest were my family, descended from Philip Wells of South Carolina, and the Thomas Lea Wells family from North Carolina. The two families used many of the same surnames, so are very hard to separate. Thomas Lea Wells married Mary Rainey. Rainey T. Wells, the founder of Murray State, was a member of this family. Thomas had a son name James Madison Wells who married Sarah Ann Whaley and had a son James Madison Wells, Jr. However, I don't believe your James Madison was one of these; the dates are wrong. Your James Madison Wells married Sarah Ann Lindsey, as you say. She was the daughter of Vines Monroe Lindsey of Choctaw Co., Mississippi. One wonders how she came to KY, since Vines Lindsey apparently did not move there. There were no Lindseys living in Calloway at the time, but many in Marshall County. There was a John(?) Lindsey there some years earlier, and, oddly, was a JP that married James Madison Wells, Sr. and Sarah Ann Whaley. I found a deed transaction for a quarter section of land at T2 R6 QS9 NW that was bought by James Madison Wells in 1853. The land was previously owned by Isaac Wells, who I believe was part of my Wells family, but I am not sure exactly how. Probably he was the son or grandson of Lewis Wells, who moved to Calloway from Green or Hardin County, KY. He was the son of Philip Wells, born in Laurens County, SC and died in Green county in 1814. My GGG-grandfather John Wells was Lewis Wells' brother. If the James Madison who bought this land is your James Madison, then we are distantly related. Oddly, the above land is within a mile of the Eggner's Ferry Bridge that was knocked down by a ship last night. Sorry I can't give you a definite answer. I will continue looking through my old files to see if I can piece together who James Madison Wells was. Ed Wells Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
