    2. HN
    3. In the course of some research in Nebraska, I ran across a land patent to Lucy A. Wells (dated 02/22/1892), followed by a deed from Lucy A. Bollinger, nee Wells and S. C. Bollinger (dated 11/11/1905) as residents of Black Diamond, Contra Costa, CA. This patent is not available on the BLM/GLO webpage, however, I have photos of both documents from the Dawes County records and would be happy to e-mail them to anyone researching this person/line.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: ORWells Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.wells/3778.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Donna, You may not want to receive this information, but I think you will want to have the genealogy you are starting to work on to be accurate. As you may or may not have discovered we have been running a Wells DNA study where we have been testing descendants of various Wells families trying to sort them out. One of the things this testing revealed early on is that Richard Wells could not have been the father of Zachariah Wells because the DNA for Zachariah's descendants just does not match that of John/Richard Wells. It does match that of Thomas Wells b: Cir 1656 who also lived in Maryland. The problem for us at this point is nobody has been able to figure out exactly how Zachariah was connected to Thomas' family. Do you need to use the genealogical knife to excise all the ancestors of Zachariah Wells you have in your tree. This bad information exists in a lot of printed works and it started back in the 1920s when a researcher who family today say should have known better, and probably did, wrote this into a newspaper article. If you want to discuss this further, please feel free to contact me directly. orinwells@wells.org Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. Re: [WELLS] Question: How should one record adoptive parents when biological parents known? -- or parents not married?
    2. Jean Leeper
    3. My Reunion genealogy program for the Mac takes care of that. You can place the names of the adopted parents and then record the children with adopted marked and natural children will be listed with the same parents also with no adopted marked after them. If you ever find the parents you could make a seperate family file that links to the adoptive parent family file. I truthfully would hate to do genealogical research anymore without a good genealogical program to enter the families into.
