    3. Nah .. I am not upset ... I keep kicking myself for being so stupid. I gave up on rebuilding and ordered a new computer ... hopefully it will be here in a couple days(?) ... and then I can put the old hard drives in and see what I come up with. I did purchase 100 DVDs so no excuse to backup on a regular basis. I did need one with the dual processors as I keep 3-4 big applications open all the time. I probably should have got 2G memory but that came come later .. after I get this one paid off. Let's see ... in 20 years I should have it paid off ... :o) Bonita ----- Original Message ----- From: "Catherine Mensi" <cmensi@midsouth.rr.com> To: <WELLS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, October 02, 2005 12:57 PM Subject: RE: [WELLS-L] Computer Problems >I am sorry :( I responded before I knew others had responded with the > same info! 3. Hi Bonita - Sorry to hear about your problem with your computer. I know what it is like because the same thing happened to me this past April. I lost everything in the computer also. Thank goodness I had all my data backed up on CD's and floppys. A word to the wise. Back-up, Back-up, Back-up. Well, it's three words. It only takes a few minutes to back up your data. When your computer goes sour, and it happens, it's bad enough losing the computer but a lot worse losing all your data. 3. This is why you MUST frequently backup your computer onto an external media, such as a DVD. I have written a procedure for doing this, for people who have Windows and a DVD burner. I will be glad to send it to anyone who asks. It is in the form of a Microsoft Word document, which is why I can not include it with this message. I just backed up my computer (about 20 Gig) onto 5 DVD's in just a few hours. However, the reason I did the backup is that we are about to have our semi annual migration from Maine to Florida, (about to be cold here now!) so I will not be able to reply until the week after next. 3. Hello List - Last year I saw the book "The Big Wells Family" listed from Quintin Publications in Rhode Island. It was written by Joseph William Wells, Judge of Cumberland County, Kentucky in 1934-1937. I ordered the book and was a little upset after I finally received it. It wasn't what I was hopeing for. The book is interesting and the main thing about it is the many, many Wells Families throughout the country especially the David Wells family in Cumberland County, Kentucky. The title of the book "Big Wells Family" refers to "many" not the "Big Wells Family in Baltimore (Family # 009). 2. Hi Carolann at seawillie1, Oh I agree to a certain point that identity theft is on the rampage and no need to add to the jepardy, but I'd much rather exchange information and communicate with my living cousins than all my dead ones. I find it much more interesting and enjoyable to make those family connections with the living, than do all the diggin' in graveyards and records. Plus those records I need to search are usually 100's of miles from where I am, and perhaps I have living cousins who live closer and might be talked into doing research. When I began my family tree climbing, back in the late 1950's, my family didn't know much about their ancestry. So I began by recording what I knew of my immediate family, my aunts and uncles, my grandparents, their brothers & sisters, their parents (my great grandparents), and I'm still trying to do the same today. One generation at a time. Just my way of workin' and climbin' and i do respect your opinion too.
