It is warmly inscribed to him by G. A. Smith. The pages for births, deaths & marriages are filled out and contain such names as: Leavens, Beers, Strang later changed to Strange, Wells, and more. The records go back to the early 1800s. Also is laid in an old paper with more family history listed from the Wells branch: going back to the late 1700 there is listed 12 births and who each person married. This is fragile & has tape repairs. Also laid in is a hand-written composition by David Hodgetts in 1857 at Georgetown Institute in Connecticut. The book came from a Connecticut estate and the people included in the genealogy seem to be from New England, Long Island and New Jersey (I have no connection to this Bible, but am posting in hopes that someone from the family will see it in time to take a look at it. It is listed as Item number: 6576396191 and the starting bid is a nominal $9.99)

The Elizabeth Wells who married Richard Skaggs was related to Phillip and Elizabeth Wells, although I am not sure if Elizabeth was a Cook. Most records do not list her family name. Elizabeth Wells Skaggs was the daughter of Samuel and Anna Hamilton Wells and granddaughter of Phillip and Elizabeth Wells. My records say that Elizabeth Wells Skaggs was born on 17 Oct., 1794 and married on 2 April, 1811 in Hardin County, KY. They were married by Lewis Wells, who was her uncle (and was married to Martha Hamilton, her aunt). Oddly, Elizabeth Wells Skaggs had another aunt named Elizabeth Wells who was married to William Skaggs, the brother of her husband Richard Skaggs. They all moved to Calloway County, KY in the early 1820's. That includes the families of the following children of Phillip Wells: Lewis Wells, Rebecca Wells Andrews, and John Wells. John Wells was my GGG-grandfather. She was born Oct 1817, in either Proctorsville or Cavendish, VT. Her parents are William Wells (probably b. bef 1789) and his wife Nancy L (b. abt 1789). I found this William in Cavendish in 1810, 1820 and 1830 Census. In 1840 he is not listed in Cavendish and might be dead. His wife Nancy and daughter Louisa left the area . In 1850 they are in Lawrence MA, in 1860 in Lowell, MA and in 1870 in Dracut, MA. Nancy died in Dracut in 1872. Any info on William and Nancy would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!

I would like to find their children, if any, as Blackwell descendants. So far, I believe he is the same Lemuel Wells who purchased the Phillipse Manor House and considerable acreage at Yonkers, New York circa 1815, and built a dock there on the Hudson for steamboats. He owned the property until about 1840, when he was succeeded by his nephew (according to the building tour guide) Lemuel W.Wells. The latter was apparently born in Connecticut in 1803, and married Abi Langdon Stanley, which the 1850 census in Yonkers corroborates. Various internet sources seem to indicate that Lemuel W. was the son of Levi and grandson of Elisha. Eliza Blackwell Wells' two brothers James H. and Sidney Blackwell located around Yonkers circa 1840, which further helps identify the older Lemuel Wells as their brother-in-law. Have you progressed in your search of Levi's family? David Blackwell Pennington, NJ

Two quick questions re: Elhanon Wells and William (died-at-the-Alamo) Wells, of Hall Co., GA: -- Have any known male descendants of William (died-at-the-Alamo) Wells been identified and, if so, do we have DNA results from this line? -- Does anyone have any info whatsoever (other than census data) on Elhanon Wells. He appears as Hanon Wills in the 1830 census of Hall Co., Georgia, aged 50-60, with 2 males 5-10, 1 male 10-15, 2 famles 5-10, 1 female 20-30, and 1 female 40-50. William (died-at-the-Alamo) Wells is also in Hall Co., nestled between two Kelton households, but is many census pages distant from "Hanon". Elhanen Wells appears in 1840, with 1 male 20-30, 1 feamle 15-20, 1 female 20-30, and 1 female 50-60 . In 1840 he is just a four "doors" away from Elizabeth Kelton, mother-in-law of William (died-at-the-Alamo) Wells, who had been next door to William in 1830 as part of Robert Kelton's household. I am interested because as always I am searching for the elusive family of my Jeremiah Wells b. 1801 GA. Jeremiah was married in 1824 in Walton Co., GA, which at the time was adjacent to Hall Co. Jeremiah's father-in-law, Elisha Dyar, moved to Walton Co. from Franklin Co. for seven years between the 1820 and 1830 censuses. In 1830, Jeremiah is in Franklin Co., GA near his father-in-law. In 1850, the presumed son of William (Alamo) Wells appears in Franklin Co. with his wife, Amy Roe Wells. Amy's sister married a Cash, and the Cashes are tied closely to the Dyars. Also, The Roe girls are connected to another of my lines, the Glovers. One of Jeremiah Wells's daughters married 2nd Roe A. Harrison. All of this may be coincidence, of course. Any help appreciated.
