Later children were born around Rochester, NY so he might have, too. I don't know when his father Asahel moved there. The only likely Asa Wells of the right age I can find in 1810 census is in Canaan, Litchfield, CT, with two daughters and a son under 10. However, if Asa kept some of his children from the former marriage, he could be the one in Colchester, New London, CT (11010 and 30010) or Pompey, Onandaga, NY (20010 and 21010). His first wife Caty Wells was still back in Athens, Windham, VT, but with only two daughters under age 10, no sons. In the 1800 census Asa and Caty had two sons and two daughters, hmm, so the two daughters in the 1810 census were born AFTER 1800. So that means he had six children by Caty? Does anyone know about ANY of these 3 Asa Wells in 1810 so I can eliminate one? Does anyone know WHEN the 1810 census was taken? Henry was born in January so I don't know whether he was enumerated or not. I am also looking for Asa's children by Caty, all seemingly born in Athens, VT, between 1791 (marriage date with first wife Caty) and 1805 (marriage date with second wife Nancy). His daughter Charlotte Adelia married a first cousin, Asahel Nelson Wells in 1860 and enlisted for Civil War from Kalamazoo Co., MI. This was my great discovery this year, after seeing Asahel Nelson reporting he married a cousin, from his Civil War pension file. Heretofore I had assumed Henry had died as a child since no one had any information on him. Anyway, the mystery remains about place of birth and death for Henry. His father was Asahel Wells, born 1772 in Deerfield, MA, died 1829 in unknown, probably Rochester or Chemung Co., NY. Asahel had at least four children by a first wife back in Athens, Windham, VT, between 1791 and 1800 and I don't know any of their names. Then he ?married Nancy Holden in 1805 in unknown place and had another family: Harriet, Eliza Ann, Henry, Nelson, Anson, and Elvira. I descend from Anson and I have his Bible that has dates but no places. Anson did have a son Frederick b. 1841 PA, who left 3 children before dying early. One of them was a Fred, and I have been unable to find if he left any family. So when I needed Wells family DNA, I looked to descendents of Nelson and that grandson gave his DNA and he proved to be related to Thomas Wells who married Francis Albright. But I am still looking for descendents of Fred, born in the 1880s. He had sisters, Lizzie, b. 1877, and Ida, b. 1870. I did find Ida married Albert V. Harvey and they moved to California. If living, their sons Albert and Frederick would be in their nineties by now. Hope someone knows something more about these families. I would like to see this branch tested so we can sompare it to the others from the family. It might confirm a connection we suspect from another New York Wells family we are sure connects to Peter Wells of Kingston, RI but can not yet prove. There is a mutation down that branch. If it appears in this branch we then can narrow the connection. Please let me know if you succeed in finding a willing descendent who still carries the Wells surname. By the way, there was another Wells family in Kalamazoo at the same time but they have proven by the DNA to be from a different Wells family.
