THE GENEALOGIST VERSION Twas the night before Christmas When all through the house Not a creature was stirring, Not even my spouse. The dining room table with clutter was spread With pedigree charts and letters which said. "Too bad that the data for which you last wrote Sank in a storm on an ill-fated boat." Stacks of old copies of bills, wills, and such Were proof that my work had become way too much. Our children were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of sugarplums danced in their heads. And I at my table was ready to drop From work on my album with photos to crop. Christmas was here, and such was my lot That presents and goodies and toys I'd forgot. Had I not been so busy with grandparents' wills, I'd not have forgotten to shop for such thrills; While others bought gifts to bring good Christmas cheers, I'd spent time researching those birthdates and years. While I was thus musing about my sad plight, A noise on the lawn gave me such a great fright! Away to the window I flew in a flash, Tore open the drapes and yanked up the sash. When what with my wondering eyes should appear, But an overstuffed sleigh and with eight small reindeer. Up to the house top the reindeer they flew, With a sleigh full of toys and ol' Santa Claus, too. And then in a twinkle, I heard on the roof The prancing and pawing of each tiny hoof. As I drew in my head, and bumped into the sash, Down the cold chimney fell Santa - KER-RASH! "Dear" Santa had come from the roof in a wreck, Tracking soot on the carpet, (could've wrung his short neck)! Spotting my face, ol' Santa could see Christmas spirit was lacking in little ol' me. He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work And filled all the stockings, (I felt like a jerk). Here then was Santa, who'd brought us such joy, When I'd been too busy for even one toy. He spied my research on the table all spread; "A genealogist!" He cried! (My face was all red)! "Tonight I've met many like you," Santa grinned, As he pulled from his sack a large book he had penned. I gazed with amazement; the cover, it read Genealogy Lines for Which You Have Pled. "I know what it's like to have Rooter's Bug," He said as he gave me a great Santa hug. "While the elves make the sleighful of toys I now carry, I do some research in the North Pole Library! So these special treats I am able to bring To genealogy folk who can't find a thing." "Now off you go to your bed for a rest, I'll clean the house from this genealogy mess." As I climbed up the stairs full of gladness and glee, I looked back at Santa who'd brought much to me. While settling in bed, I heard Santa's clear whistle To his team, which then rose like the down of a thistle. And I heard him exclaim as he flew out of sight, "Family history is Fun! Merry Christmas! If the message says that: "This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list." You MUST click on link and go to the Wells Message Board on Ancestry.com in order to reply. Otherwise you will respond on this list but those who only read the messages on the message board will never see it. Thought I could find out who Marion's father was by sending off for his Confederate Service records, didn't work out. I do know that he was born in Marengo Co., AL in 1825, enlisted at Camp Moore, LA into the 19th Regiment Louisiana Infantry, Keachi Warriors, Co. I, the company was desgnated as Captain D. S. Wells, who enlisted the same date of Dec. 11, 1861. D. S.Wells was also born in Alabama, in 1825, I think his father was James and his mother was Sarah Jane. James was from LA and Sarah from Kty. If any of these names ring a bell, please let me know. Marion Married Martha (Dodrill)Daughdrill ??? could be LA or TX , I haven't found Marriage Record I do know that they were in Limestone Co., Texas in 1880. Thanks in advance for any and all help in my puzzle. Donna McKee Wells

    3. Anyone recognize Zacheus Clark Wells b: 26 Oct 1836 in Petersburg, Rensselaer County, New York? He married Eusebia Babcock (this gives the family away) b: 27 Nov 1838 in Petersburg. The parents of Zacheus were Caleb Wells b: 31 Mar 1799 Petersburg & Mary Waite b: 30 Apr 1799 Petersburg. The only child listed for Zacheus and Eusebia was Ulysses Squire Wells b: 02 Oct 1865 Petersburg who married Mathilda Fredericka Waldherr b: 31 May 1865 New York City. This family is connected to one of the DNA tests in the Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation database. This person is related to my family and I would like to track him down because this is a branch I don't think I have seen before. There is more information on the family on Ancestry.com and it makes note of a John R. Wells family in Brigham City, Utah I would guess the participant is either someone in this John R. Wells family in Brigham City or the Scott Wells who posted the material on Ancestry.com Orin R. Wells Wells Family Research Association P. O. 3. The 1920 census for North Liberty Precinct (in Murray?), Calloway Co., I think has your family. But the handwriting is as bad as mine ever was and the reproduction is wretched so it is very difficult to make it out. I would not have figured out that the head of household is James. This was taken on 13 Jan 1920. It appears the wife's middle name is Belle rather than the first. At first I thought it was Gail, but the first letter HAS to be an E. The last two letters appear to be ie or il. The second letter may be an o, a or r. Four letters. The indexer took it to be "v" for Evie. Maybe they had a better copy? James Wells 29 Evie? B. Wells 24 Granville H. Wells 4 (the indexer entered Granville G. Wells but it is H in the census) The age is off no matter how you cut this one. Although it was not May yet, he should show as 6 But this would be a very big coincidence if it were not the correct family. I am wondering if the Halen J. Wells in the 1910 census is actually the same James Wells or even the right one? There are a TON of Wells in this area including several not far from James in the 1920 census. 1. Martin Wells and wife Sarah Merritt
    2. I want to thank all who have responded to my query on my elusive 5th ggrandfather, Martin Wells. I have very little info on him as to his parents and siblings. I do not know the circumstances of his death but do know his wife Sarah Merritt Wells was living in 1870 census as living next door to her son Berry Wells and wife Mary Jane Crews. The earliest I show of Martin living in Florida is the 1850 census with his wife and 8 children. By the 1870 census of Bradford Co., Sanderson Post Office, Martin is no longer living as Sarah is living next door to her son, Berry Wells. I believe Sarah may have died shortly after the 1870 census as she is buried in the Crews Cemetery in Union County Florida beside two of her grandchildren, John L. Wells , b Oct 7, 1889, d Mar 9, 1911, and Lillian Wells, b Feb 10, 1884, d Aug 27, 1886. On either side of Sarah are unmarked graves. Perhaps one could be Martin's. Another mystery of the Wells family. My Wells line runs through Berry's daugher, Arsula Julia Wells and her marriage to John N. Kelly. Their daughter, Bertie Lee Kelly married Raymond M. Oliver. Their son, J. N. Oliver is my father. I have seen a picture of Arsula Julia Wells with her husband, John Nathaniel Kelly but am unable to get a copy. I have just begun my search on the Wells line and its connection to my other lines in Bradford Co., which are : Crosby, Kelly/kelley, Oliver, Denmarks, Reddish, Alvarez, and other extended lines. Thanks again, Ellen Oliver Wilson
