Hello Everyone - Has anyone heard from Jack Thornley Wells. I've been trying to get in-touch with him. He moved and has a new unknown email address. Thanks - Tom Wells - Daytona Beach, FL
Hello Wells researchers, I have been trying to contact the Wells family DNA Project to get involved in Phase II. I believe the instructions said that if you have a direct line Wells ancestor you could participate in this Phase. My direct line Wells ancestor is James Erwin Wells born in 1852 in Florida. His Father was Enoch Wells born around 1813 in I believe North Carolina. Enoch Married Jane Wilson in Thomas County Ga on Dec 24 1835. His Wife Jane was born in South Carolina. This is the same family that has been reported to be Andrew Enoch Wells who married Mary Brooks. I believe this marriage to Mary Brooks is in error and would like help in proving it. Enoch and Jane's children are William Henry, Thomas N., Samuel Jackson, Elmira, J.R., John E., James Erwin, Nancy Elizabeth, Jacob W. William Henry was born in 1837, so this would have given Enoch and Jane time to have at least one more if not two more Children. I think one of there other children could have been George W. Wells. Howard Hansen and Rev. Harry S. Kennedy will conduct this services. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. Mr. Wells, who was 87 years old, retired from active work several years ago, but retained a lively interest in 24,000 acres of ranch land which he owned in Elbert county and which has been managed for the last eight years by his son-in-law, T. Gerowe Simmons. Surviving are his daughter, Mrs. Simmons; a sister, Mrs. B.K. Read, 320 W. Colorado Ave., and two grandchildren. His wife died in Colorado Springs six years ago. Pallbearers at the funeral this afternoon will be Charles Hopkins, Ted Thomas, Robert S. Caldwell, Robert Spurgeon, Jack Miller, J. Stubbs, Harold Hawks and D. Clyde Waugh. Mr. Well' grandfather and family settled in Connecticut after arriving in this country from England, his grandfather later moving to Wolcott, N.Y. Mr. Wells' father, Samuel Styles Wells, was six years old when the family went to Wolcott. Mr. Wells came to Colorado from Wolcott in 1880. He was regarded as one of the outstanding sheep ranchers of the state. When a young man he came to region from New York. He was engaged for some time in the mercantile business with Russell Gates, the stores and trading posts of the pair becoming prominent in various communities of the west. Later he discontinued merchadising and centered his activities on ranch development. His son-in-law who took over the ranch management when Mr. Wells moved to Colorado Springs, eight years ago, is graduate of the Colorado Springs high school. He attended Colorado college for two years and graduated at Brown university. The Wells ranch grew from a few sections to a total today of more than 28 sections, or 17,920 acres to be exact. Last year, in addition to that owned outright, 6,800 acres of grazing land were under lease to Mr. Simmons in the Bijou basin country. The ranch, located in eastern Elbert county, seven miles northeast of Matheson, is crossed diagonally by the Rock Island Railroad and Big Sandy Creek. Shipments of lambs and wool to the Denver and Boston markets, respectively, are made on both the Rock Island and the Union Pacific lines.

Hello all, My name is Alan O. Payne and I haven't used rootsweb before. I have been looking for anyone who might be familiar with Enoch Wells who was born around 1813 in either Georgia or North Carolina. I believe he was born in North Carolina. He was married to Jane Wilson on 24 Dec 1835 in Thomas County Georgia. Then on May 1 1849 there is an Enoch Wells purchasing land in Coffee County Alabama. There is Also A Shadrack Wells purchasing Land in Coffee County Alabama on May 1 1849. Shadrack Wells was also in Thomas County Georgia. He married Pheobe Carlton. Does anyone know any information about Enoch or Shadrack? There is conflicting information about this Enoch. Some say his name is Andrew Enoch Wells Grandson of Josiah who died in 1857 Jefferson County Georgia. Also, some say that Enoch Wells married Mary Brooks. I think Enoch and Shadrack could be kin, but the relationship is elusive. Shadrack is about 20 years older than Enoch. Also of some interest there is another Enoch Wells on the 1850 Census of Madison County Florida that is said to have been born in North Carolina. This Enoch is said to be 65 years old in 1850. This enoch could be the father of my direct line enoch. The Enoch in Madison county Florida 1850 would have been born in 1784/85. His wife is Catherine and said to have been born in Georgia and 58 years of age in 1850. Another interesting point to make is the fact that an Enoch Wells fought in the Second Seminole Indian War of Florida in 1839 for six months. I believe the Enoch of Madison County Florida 1850 to have been to old to be this soldier in 1839. He would have been about 55 years old at the time. The Enoch Wells whom Married Jane Wilson on 24 Dec 1835 would be a much more likely man for the job. He would have been around 26 Years of age. This could also be the reason why I haven't been able to fine him on the 1840 Census of Thomas County Georgia or anywhere else for that matter. The evidence of the children's birth place suggests that the younger Enoch moved to Florida around 1849. His child John E. Wells was born in florida in 1850 and the previous child was born in Alabama. His first two children were born in Georgia and the first child born in Alabama was born around 1841. I suppose it is possible for a family with primary residence in Coffee County Alabama to fight for the US against the Seminole Indians in Florida. Enoch Wells joind the forces at Camp Collins. Does anyone know where Camp Collins was located? That about wraps up my knowledge of Enoch wells I am searching. I appoligise for such a long explanation. Thank you Alan Payne Wells researcher in Putnam County Florida _________________________________________________________________ Dont just search. Find. My Wells family was mostly in Chesterfield County though there are a number from Dinwiddie Co. I trace back to Micheal Henry Wells born in 1730. I believe his father was William Wells II who was born in Prince George County in 1702 and died in 1826 in Dinwiddie. I don't have any info on the Dinwiddie Wells family to date. Don
