Surnames: Huckaby Wells Brister Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/SCWBAIB/4487 Message Board Post: While going through my father’s papers, I found the following letter. My grandfather was Loren Rogers Huckaby, a Primitive Baptist Preacher. In her letter, his cousin relates news about other family members. I assume that the writer’s mother was Rhoda Jane Huckaby and Aunt Eve is Sarah Eve Huckaby. I do not know whom Cousin Jesse Smith is nor do I know if Papa was one of her Grandfathers. I do know that I don’t have a second wife for any of the Grandfathers I know of. If a proven direct descendent of Cubelle Brister would like the original letter, I will send it to you. Just reply to my post. Also, I would love to meet new cousins! The letter as I typed it: Water Valley, Miss 4/10/14 Mr & Mrs Loren Huckaby Dear Cousin, How are you all by this time. OK I hope. This leaves us all well at present. We have been farming a little this week, planted some corn. It is pretty cool too about now. Fire sure feels good to sit by. Think if it keeps up this cold very long there won’t be any fruit. You said it was raining where you live. It has been a right favorable winter here till about two weeks ago. We had a rainy spell. Of course, we had some rain along but not so bad. I got a letter from Aunt Eve. She was well she said, but Jocie had been sick with the Lagrippe. She said she guess she would go back to Bowie before long and stay with them old people she stayed with so long. You asked me if we belonged to the Primitive Baptist. No we belong to the Missionary Baptist. Momma use to belong to them but there wasn’t any of that denomination close and she joined the other. Aunt Eve said that Cousin Jesse Smith was going to move to New Mexico the first of April. I wonder what he is going to do down there among them Mexicans. Has he married again or do you know. We haven’t had them pictures made yet, but I will send you one when we have them made. You all have yours made and send me one. I sure would be proud of it. Well I guess I had better close as I hve no news to write worth anything. So answer soon, your cousin, Cunelle Brister As I haven’t mailed your letter, I will write a few more lines. What kind of time did you have for Easter. I went to church and wore my new Easter dress though it was pretty cool for Easter dresses. Well, did you go to any Easter hunt. I didn’t, Grover went to one. He said to tell you hello and for you to write to him. I tried to get him to write to you but he said you didn’t write to him, and if you wrote to him he would write to you. I will close hoping to hear from you real soon, your cousin, Cubelle I got a letter from your Papa a week or two ago. He says he had a fine little wife. I told him he sure was lucky. If you ever hear from Uncle Bill’s folks I got a letter from Pearl. She is in bad health she says she is out of her hope ever being well anymore. Say, come out to see us this summer and stay a while with us. Well, goodbye and answer real soon, your cousin, Cubelle

    1. Henry Wells wed Miriam Stark Robertson Co., Tenn
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/SCWBAIB/4485 Message Board Post: My lineage runs through John Wells and Lydia Collier Wells who ended up in Walker Co., Texas in the late 1830's. However, in 1900 something strange is found. William Wells and family are living next door to three of the descendents of the above John and Lydia Wells in the Walker Co., Texas census. William and his wife (Norsisia Mitchell?) moved back and forth between Dickson Co., Tennessee and Walker Co., Texas, as they were born in Tennessee, their eldest kids were born in Texas, their youngest kids were born in Tennessee, and they died in Walker Co., Texas in the 1920s. This William Wells is certainly the son of Henry Wells (born c1822 in Indiana) and Miriam Stark (born c1831 in Robertson? Co., Tennessee) who were married on April 25, 1847 in Roberston Co., Tennessee by David M. Wells, JP. Children of Henry and Miriam Stark Wells are William Walter, Cornelius F., Ida, Columbus?, Martha Elizabeth, Sarah H., Frances, and Franklin Miles Wells. Henry and Miriam Wells moved from Roberston Co., to Dickson Co., Tennessee in c1865. As this Henry Wells line seems to be completely dissociated with my John Wells line, I am hoping that there may be some information available to connect them. The earliest that John and Lydia Collier Wells can be found is in the NE Arkansas/SE Missouri area, prior to c1815. There is some indication that his father could be John, Jacob, Abraham, or Samuel Wells, all four of whom are sons of Absolom Samuel Wells. Of Clark Co., Arkansas and, earlier, from Kentucky, in circa late 1700's Perhaps these two lines can connect? Perhaps it is simply a co-incidence that William moved to Texas?
