The 1870 Hopkins County KY census shows James G. and his wife, Harriet Gertrude Allen Smith, along with three of James' brothers and sisters. Children of James Smith and Harriet Allen are: Lillian Gertrude Smith, Nellie Smith, Roy A. Smith, Lindsey Melburn Smith, Maudie Smith, Sara S. Smith, James Everet Smith, Arthur Leslie Smith, Paul Owen Smith, Clare Smith, Guy Smith and Virgil Pratt Smith. I would love to share information with anyone researching these Smiths. As some of you may know, especially Robert Wells, we have tested one descendent of the William Wells/Sarah Westmoreland family. It did not match any of our baseline families especially the Mecklenburg Co., VA Wells family of David Wells (DNA family W023). To get a clearer indication of why it didn't match, we could use another descendent of William and Sarah Wells through any son other than William Wells, Jr. There were several potential sons including Ransom John Allen George Thomas Robert Henry Jesse I have also seen Hasten Wells connected by some. It is not clear to me what the names and birth dates of the sons were. Anyone who has a good grip on this, please feel free to post them here. If you know of any male Wells descendent of this family who still carries the Wells surname, please put me in contact with them. I would like to know is this the same Joseph Wells as was in Mason Co, KY (who m. Susannah Downing) or a different man? Any leads on the Joseph Wells of Bracken Co would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
