By the way, for those who have not checked it out, the Texas Republic Claims web site is great if you had ancestors in Texas during that time or who fought for Texas Independence. The actual images are wonderful and there are some wills there as well. Also, the Texas Online Handbook is a great resource. Mary Beth

Before I moved to Phoenix, I could view the VT vital records index (18th - 19th century) whenever I wanted at the Dallas Public Library (TX) ... but, alas ... I am now 'without' access. I check VT state government website, but they do not have it on the internet yet (but they do have a great NYE index for other court records -- mostly land). I asked if I could buy the microfilm, but no response. Does anyone have access or have you looked up WELLS on the VT vital records index? Coxsackie Cemetery http://www.rootsweb.com/~nygreen2/coxsackie_cemetery.htm Located in Coxsackie, Greene Co, NY. In 1933 the cemetery was in Good Condition. Copies bought and retyped by Annette Campbell from LDS Microfilm. Read 1933 From J.B. Beers' "History of Greene County", published in 1884: This cemetery was laid out in 1826, a piece of land having been bought for the purpose of Simeon Fitch, who sold: To the minister, Elders and Deacons of the Reformed Dutch Church of Coxsackie, all the certain piece of ground on the southwest side of the road that leads from the village of Coxsackie to the lower landing, containing 1 29-100 acres. The said piece having been bought by certain individuals as a place to burial, according to the articles of agreement in a certain subscription paper. March 26th 1826. This list is given in full as not only showing the owners of the lots, but also a list of all the prominent men of that time who were living in the vicinity. Whereas it is proposed to purchase a piece of ground as a place of burial in a convenient situation to accommodate the inhabitants of the village of Coxsackie and the Landing and those in the vicinity, and a suitable place has been found for that purpose in a lot belonging to Simeon Fitch, lying on the southwest side of the road leading from the village of Coxsackie to the Lower Landing and adjoining the lot occupied by Isaac Delamater, on the southeast, containing 1 ¼ acres, and it being proposed to purchase the said piece of ground and to raise the sum of about $300 for the purchase of the ground and for clearing, fencing, seeding and laying out the same. The committee appointed were to lay out 100 lots of 30 feet in length and nine feet wide, according to a plan hereto annexed. It was also agreed that the price paid by each person for a lot should be considered as so much pain toward the price of the lot, and the lots remaining unsold to be under the control of the committee. Thanks ... do you know how Joshua and David WELLS of Westerly, RI are connected ?? as I do not have parents of Joshua Wells, father of Alexander and Perry. Orin found another Joshua Wells b: 1756 that I have been checking out but they definitely are not the same person. His descendants settled in Brattleboro, Orange Co., Vermont and several of his ancestors stayed there. One leg of the family ended up in Elko Co., NV near Reno. The two boys who stayed in NV were Charles A (sometimes O) and St. Clair "Clair" Wells. I found that Clair died in 1980. I need to look for an obit to see if there are any 'living Wells males'. Their sister, Emalinda, married a guy in San Luis Obispo Co., California named Edward Everett FORRESTER or FORESTER ... and had 10 children If anyone has access to pre-1940 California death records, I need a lookup for their mother who died in 1918 .. her maiden name was WHEAT or WHEET.
