    3. Off hand I have no clue who this was. The name James was not used in the Gov. Thomas Welles family until after this period. Given the date of death I would hazard a guess this chap was a immigrant himself. From Savage the following: "JAMES, Haddam, present. for freem. 1669, as Trumbull, Col. Rec. II. 106 proves. He came 1650, as serv. to William Pincheon, to Springfield, P. hav. paid for his pass, and his will of 9 June 1694, then a capt. on milit. serv. names w. Elizabeth; s. James, b. 27 Nov. 1668; and Thomas; d. Elizabeth m. and Mary and Susan unm. He d. bef. 5 Jan. 1698. JAMES, Haddam, s. of the preced. m. Rebecca, d. of Joseph Selden of Lyme, had Rebecca, b. 1699; Susanna, 1701; Mary, 1703, d. young; James, 7 Jan. 1706; Joseph, 24 Mar. 1708; and Martha, 1701; was lieut. and d. 21 Dec. 1744. " I wonder why Savage thought it necessary to abbreviate so much? Looks like James came along around 1650. I am not familiar with this family but surely some of them have survived. 3. My Marion Wells, was born in AL, his mother was from GA, and his father was from LA. Who they were? That is my question, as Marengo Co. AL Census in 1830 show a James Wells and a Benjamin Wells, with sons that would be Marion's age. If any one has Wells members from LA, I would like to hear from them.
