Since this family's DNA matches my own we know they must descend from my branch ... somewhere. Samuel Wells of Twiggs/Wilkinson County fits perfectly. Of course, there's always a margin for error. I'm 90% certain of my research, but there's always the chance that I've taken a wrong turn somewhere. John
Vickie, Your signature line is actually most inappropriate for a genealogy list and it probably contravenes Rootsweb protocols. Rootsweb does not condone advertising which the link to the INeways site most certainly is. Bible quotes (or those from any other faith's texts) are also not appropriate. I respect your beliefs but this is not a Christian list and I do not wish to be preached at. You deal with it or I am sure the listowner will. Over to you Dave. The first time he enlisted, he enlisted as Henry J. Clapp. He said it was because when he was still very young, his father died and his mother married John Clapp. She insisted he use that surname. Sometime during the War, John Clapp died. Henry reenlisted and this time he used his lawful name of Wells. Lillian and her husband, Roy, both died during the influenza pandemic of 1918. My DNA (submitted by cousins) places me in one of the orphan lines. Your info connects Samuel to Humphrey's line, so I suppose I can now eliminate Samuel from my list of suspects. It is good to know, but a little sad, too, when this happens, kind of like a death in the family. My Jeremiah is a brick wall. He appears out of nowhere when he marries in 1824, Walton Co. I have had 37 Wellses on my "Northeast Georgia" list and have been researching all of them (and others in SC, NC, and VA) as far as I reasonably can. It is very difficult to eliminate suspects on DNA because to do so with certainty one has to find good research connecting the suspect to a known DNA group (not ones own), or do the research oneself. It is often hard work, and not very gratifying, to do a lot of research simply to disqualify a suspect. You have helped me. One down, thirty-six to go.

A gentleman from Mississippi who descends from Samuel Wells of Henry Co. matched my DNA pattern exactly for the Wells Family Association DNA Project. I know that my family descends from Dr. Humphrey Wells of Wilkes Co., GA who in turn descends from Zorobabel Wells of Maryland and his father Richard Wells born 1618 in England. This line has been completely documented and proved with several DNA tests. I have been trying to figure out how Samuel fits into my line. Tonight I found that Humphrey Wells who married Abigail Lindsey(this Humphrey is a 2nd cousin to my ancestor) lived in Newberry Co., SC and had a son named Samuel born c.1775. This Samuel moved to Twiggs/Wilkinson County, GA by 1813. He moved to Henry Co., GA by 1830 and had at least three sons Hezekiah, William M. and Samuel, Jr. The remnants of the family were living in DeKalb County by 1850. William M. Wells died prior to 1850 and left a son named Thomas ! J. Wells, born in 1830. This Thomas J. Wells had a son named William M. Wells born in 1860. He eventually ended up in Mississippi and is the progenitor of the family I've been trying to connect. I hope this info is of interest. John Wells

John Osling, Polly Acres, and John Pattillo executors" placing John Oslin with an Abner Wells in Greene Co. in 1809. In 1813, Abner and Samuel Wells both appear in Putnam Co. tax records. In 1820 Putnam Co. census, Abner (aged 45+) appears next door to George and Elijah Wells (or Wills). I have not been able to locate Samuel in 1820. In 1830 Putnam Co., Abner is aged 60-70, placing his birth about 1765 (vs. Samuel's birth about 1775). By this time, Samuel is in Henry Co. Some of Samuels neighbors of aof lines I can connect to other Wellses. I have a strong feeling that Samuel and Abner are connected. Whether my Jeremiah connects is another matter, but he may. Let's compare notes.

Vickie To whomever-- My signature line is about the fact that I am a womens' advocate for dealing with menopause and estrogen dominance using natural products-not drugs that can cause cancer and other health problems. By the way, men go through menopause too only it is called andropause.
