    3. This has come across on a couple of my lists. Flavia >Genealogy Alert: Geocities to close this year > >You may have heard that Geocities will be closing down later this year >(2009). There are many genealogy sites on Geocities, and sadly, many of >these sites may be lost if the webmasters don't move the sites to a new >location. Yahoo is not notifying anyone about this by e-mail and >many webmasters have not updated their sites in years, so--more likely than >not--are not even aware the pages they have posted will be lost. > >You or someone you know may have genealogy information posted on a Geocities >site. USGenWeb & Rootsweb also have had links to Geocities sites. Author: eileenfuller84 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.wells/5136.5/mb.ashx Message Board Post: If you can view the obituary, you can find out your father's parents' names. Using these names, you can start with the census records. Of course, your father is the most direct source, he would know about his parents and most likely his grandparents. Does he have any brothers and sisters? They could also be helpful, if your father is not available. Also, if you do a simple search in ancestry.com, you might come up with a cousin that has been researching your family through a grandparent and that can give you a good start. Author: eileenfuller84 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.wells/5136.4/mb.ashx Message Board Post: HI: Iwould start with Census Records. If you know their names and the names of their parents, you can look on the census records starting with 1930 and going back. After 1840, the census records show all of the family members living in the household including grandparents, boarders, cousins, aunts, uncles. For most, you can also view the neighbors living around them which for many of them will turn out to be brothers, sisters, cousins, parents, etc. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
