Does anyone recognize this woman? I am trying to get her husband's name who was deceased when she died 27 Feb 2004. Her maiden name is VOLTER. Bonita Obituaries Mary V. Current cost for the testing is $119 for being test through the group project. Plus tax and shipping. Don't be afraid to talk to your cousin. Just be honest with him and tell him we don't know if there was a mistake in the genealogy and try to verify whatever he can confirm. It may be whatever happened, if something did, it was far enough back no living member of the family will have a clue. If you can find another member of your Wells family who connects down a different branch than your cousin, that would tell us a lot. Assuming there was no hanky panky down that branch too. Either he will hit on a Wells family or he will match your other cousin. In either case the focus changes. It might get you closer to the correct answer. Orin; I checked the DNA on ancestry, and wrote to Michael Wright. I have a distant cousin through Williams son that is coming out from Wisconsin. She is decended from my 2nd great grandfathers brother and a son of William. She has a cousin that we are thinking about having a DNA test done on him and see what comes up. How much is a DNA kit now? I've looked at the William Wells from Wellsville's genealogy and the given names match so close it is uncanny John, George, James, William, Mary, Sarah, Rebecca, Anne. But my William doesn't fit in anywhere it is so frustrating. I'm kind of embarrassed to question my cousin who is the source, and if there was any adoptions or hanky panky I don't know of it. LOL Thanks any how jim In a message dated 6/29/2009 5:29:49 P.M. Eastern Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: Jim, The two you cited from Ohio were from the "Little Wells" Family. Jim, The two you cited from Ohio were from the "Little Wells" Family. This is W008 - one of the ones you don't match. There are a couple of possiblities when the DNA does not match. 1. You have an ancestor who changed his name, was adopted or resulted form a "roll in the hay". Unless you trip over someone else with a different surname who matches you, we have no idea if this is a possiblity. 2. This a Wells family we have not seen via any other descendent yet. Since we have not seen them yet, it is pretty hard to speculate here. But we do know that a LOT of different Wells families passed through Ohio - many still have descendents there. In fact, if you search in DNA.Ancestry.com there ARE some very close matches who are not Wells. Whether one of them has some meaning could only be determined by contacting the person who submitted the DNA for testing. The names I see are: Michael Anthony Wright - Perfect match Stuart Whiteeagle Ackley - one deviation Walter Wiley Chisholm - one deviation David B. Haynes - one deviation (same as Chisholm) There are several others who only tested at "33" markers that I wouldn't spend much time looking at. The problem with Ancestry is there are no indications of where the ancestors originated without asking the participant. If you are not sure how to check your DNA against the Ancestry data, write me off list and I will give you the username and password. Thank you Laurie; My William Wells was born in ohio per 1850-1870 census around 1799-1800. He was married in Salineville Ohio to Rebecca House 3 April 1821. in 1840 they are living in Washington Twp., Columbiana County, living near in laws. In 1850-1870 they are in Rosstwp. Jefferson County. I haven't found him in the 1830 census yet, but in the 1820 census for Ross twp. I found a William Wells over 26 and under 45 his wife the same with 2 boys and 4 girls under 10. I don't know if this William is a related or not or if it is just a coincidence. I did have a cousin do a DNA test and that was put on a orphan list. That is all I know. I plan on going to Stuebenville in a couple weeks to search the courthouse there. Bazaleel was a very prominent Ohio pioneer, would be honored to be connected to that line, but it would also help if my line was excluded too. There are just so many Wells families in this small area. Thank so much Laurie Jim In a message dated 6/27/2009 1:21:15 A.M. I have a facebook page but I'm not sure how long I am going to keep it. Too much clutter and junk, you can't control what gets posted and you have to put up with adds because Facebook is not making a profit yet. It makes it a lot easier to match. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: debraanderson15 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.wells/5154.1.1.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello Melinda. A DNA participant for the Wells Y-DNA Surname Project, would have to be Wells male. This is because the Y chromosome, which is what is being tested, is passed from father to son, not from father to daughter. If you would like to have your Wells family tested, then you would need to locate a living Wells male in your family. Perhaps there was a male descendant of your grandmother's brother? You would want to then locate this cousin and request that they participate in the DNA Wells Surname Project. Of course, you can always go back (up the tree) to find a documented Wells male, then follow that line down to a living male. I have done this many times, but the genealogy has to be documented; you have to be sure it is correct, other wise the DNA proves nothing. FamilyTreeDNA is currently running a great special on these test kits, so an incentive to start looking for your male cousins. They do run these specials every once in awhile, so if you are unable to locate a participant soon, don't give up. There are DNA projects for females, but not as helpful in our genealogical research. I am sure that Orin can help answer some of your questions as he is the Co-ordinator of the Wells DNA Surname Project.
