Author: tkwelch1 Surnames: Wells Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.wells/4301.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: To clarify, are you saying Frances' parents were Henry and Lucinda Berry? We come from a Joseph Wells b 1771 North Carolina who married Sarah Hunter. Our Joseph died abt 1823 but we think Warren County, KY. Very similar names/time periods. We are looking for Joseph's parents. We have dna that may link us to the Pennsylvania Wells but have not been able to confirm our tree further back than Joseph of 1771. Perhaps Hancock is not far from the Mammoth Cave area where our Wells' lived? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. I passed the message on to my cousin about the DNA test. She will probably contact Orin. I am hoping the results reveal a Wells connection, If not it may come back Wright again. We stomped through the cemetaries in Ross Twp. where William was from and found Wright families. They are everywhere in Jefferson county! They owned and sold a lot of land. . Maybe my cousin's line is a true Wells. That would at least tell me which line I am looking at. Maybe James was taken in by the Wells family, but the strong family resemblance makes me think that William or further back was taken in by the Wells. In that case we will both be Wright! lol I was so hoping to be a Wells descendant. Oh well! Is it just me or does Ancestry.com really stink now? I can't find half of the things I use to before it became better. Jim- Thank you Orin In a message dated 7/13/2009 1:03:52 P.M. 3. James .. it may not necessarily tell you where you are connected but it WILL tell you which line you are NOT connected ... and that is progress. When I get on a research tangent all I have to do is look to see if the person I am looking at is in my W015 Wells DNA Family ... if not, I drop the search on their line. If you will send me a gedcom of your Wells line (include desc from top WELLS and all spouses .. don't need non-Wells desc). I will not include anyone who is not deceased or born after 1920 ... so do not be concerned about sending me those born after 1920 and not deceased. The worse thing to do is to put PRIVATE or LIVING in date field as I have to remove it. If you are concerned just do not include their names in the gedcom at all. 3. James: You need to get at least a 36 marker test. I believe the $79 is less. The reason I say this is that the earliest tests for the Wells DNA study were only 25 markers and we found that they did not have critical markers to be able to define which 'leg' of the family tree they belonged to. Orin gets a discount on the Ancestry.com test so go through him. Bonita _____ avast! Antivirus <http://www.avast.com> : Outbound message clean. 1. Re: [WELLS] Columbiana/Jefferson county ohio
    2. Hi Orin; I talked to my cousin who is visiting from Wissconsin about a dna test kit. She said Ancestry has the kits for 79.00. Can that be submitted to your dna project? I don't know what type of test kit it is, or if it is as good as what you offer. We are going to Stuebenville today to look. We did find Our William Wells on a platt map in ross twp. Jefferson county, Ohio. Bordering his property was a James Wells, who lived in either Ross twp. or Brush Creek twp. (the Twp. changed). Does anyone know who this James Wells would have been? Maybe this is the Wells family my William Wells was associated with. I did find the name Wright in that area, so maybe his father was a Wright, but taken in by James Wells. I don't know what family if any this James Wells from Brush Creek/Ross he belongs to. Jim In a message dated 6/29/2009 5:29:49 P.M. Eastern Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: Jim, The two you cited from Ohio were from the "Little Wells" Family. This is W008 - one of the ones you don't match. There are a couple of possiblities when the DNA does not match. 1. You have an ancestor who changed his name, was adopted or resulted form a "roll in the hay". Unless you trip over someone else with a different surname who matches you, we have no idea if this is a possiblity. 2. This a Wells family we have not seen via any other descendent yet. Since we have not seen them yet, it is pretty hard to speculate here. But we do know that a LOT of different Wells families passed through Ohio - many still have descendents there. In fact, if you search in DNA.Ancestry.com there ARE some very close matches who are not Wells. Whether one of them has some meaning could only be determined by contacting the person who submitted the DNA for testing. The names I see are: Michael Anthony Wright - Perfect match Stuart Whiteeagle Ackley - one deviation Walter Wiley Chisholm - one deviation David B. Haynes - one deviation (same as Chisholm) There are several others who only tested at "33" markers that I wouldn't spend much time looking at. The problem with Ancestry is there are no indications of where the ancestors originated without asking the participant. If you are not sure how to check your DNA against the Ancestry data, write me off list and I will give you the username and password. All I know so far is that he was married to Ruth Parks, and their son, Delmer Wells, was born in 1919 in Mohall, North Dakota. They also had two daughters, Margaret and Betty. They also lived in Black Duck, MN, and then near Carrington, ND. I'm trying all avenues to get more info, so thought I would try here, too... Thanks! There have been a fair number of people looking at Samuel G. Wells over the past decade, but no one seems to have been able to prove who his parents were. I was interested in whether he perhaps would have come from the family of Samuel Wells Jr. who would have been in Jessamine Co, Ky., when Samuel G. was born and disappeared from Edgar Co, Ill., about the time Samuel G. shows up in Texas (mid 1830s). BTW, did you take a photo of his grave? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
